It's the quickest way to spoil the look of your typeR is what I think of them.
Only roof scoops that were meant to be on the car from the factory, like on the RA, look good IMHO. Any scoop stuck on for show purposes gets the thumbs down for me.

Totally agree. Non functioning style mods like this make a car look cheap.

Yes, question 2. Well the OE ones have warnings on them in Japanese stating not to travel over 60 mph with the 'vent' in the open position IIRC. I have no idea about the myriad of aftermarket ones

They are to allow air into the car without opening the windows.
A friend of mine has a roof scoop fitted with the correct holes and adjustable eyeball vents in carbon in the car!!!
His is an old WRC rally car though so it really factory fit and could maybe be forgiven!!

If your just wanting something to stick it on to the roof ,then the best thing would be a product called Sikaflex which is a sealant used by professional bodyshops and can be bought from Brown brothers or other motor factor type places.
Just one word of warning,if you do use this,it is permanent and if you try to remove it you will bust the scoop and the roof will need sanded down and repainted.
I used this to do my rear spoiler and only way its coming off is with a grinder and a blowtorch.

mine has one but i think out of common sense i wouldnt drive too fast with it open although i reckon it would be ok as the rally cars didnt limit their speed to 60 incase it came undone !! i personally think that the stick on type are ****e. as if you are going to fit one then do it right and fit a proper one.

I've done "over" 60 with mine open & no probas except paper blowing around & noise in the car.
Cheers
Sorry for us hijacking the thread BTW.
I wouldn't have a stick on one either - sorry!

My car is done up with the rally decals etc like a replica WRC to look at so I got the nicest looking replica scoop i could find on fleabay...
I'm not sure if i will like mine on the car, (As with other mods, sometimes they grow on you, sometimes you decide - no, bad)
So to start with, once its ready to go on the car I wish to magnetise it to start with. May not go that route but it would be the fastest way to remove it if i decide it looks ****... Could remove it for motorway speeds etc, do Mini Cabs / Learners have issues with magnet non aero dynamic roof signs on the M roads?
Other than magnets to hold it on (for testing purposes) I've been thinking to use 'fixers' double sided 'foam-middled' tape like they use on number plates. The thinner version liberally applied to the rim should keep it on i hope, even on the motorway... I think tho that to remove it id have to cheese wire the tape to get scoop off so as not to buckle the roof. Then use chemicals to remove the tacky stuff.
Either way it isnt toooo permanent.
I've seen one on a car same style as mine in Stockwell, with a stick-on (I think) roof scoop, and it looked poor 'imo' simply cos of cheap looking silver / grey mesh.
So i opted for drilled ally mesh painted matt black, but ive not bonded the mesh to the scoop yet.....
HTH
