did start a thread on it somewhere...
erm basically its sort of boosting, then slowing then boosting, slowing etc, while a steady rise in revs.
say im doing 70mph in top gear... and i put my foot down, youll hear the turbo spool up and boost kick in, but after a second it will slow, then the next second you will feel the boost kick in again, and so on and so on. only noticeable in 3rd 4th and mostly 5th. 1st and 2nd seem ok, so im assuming its a pressure thing. nowt to do with the clutch or anything, and it recently had a service. i hope it may be a blocked pipe/cracked pipe.
andy
apologies for going off topic

Less than a grand for mine. Needed new engine. Got one for £500. In the process of fitting it so by the time it's up and running should have cost me about £1700 all in. it's a '93 WRX import by the way with one or two subtle mods here and there.

Paid £3600 a year ago for my MY95 Turbo Wagon from main Subaru Dealer.
Years warranty
Years MOT
6 Months tax
FSSH, 72K at time.
New rear disks and pads, every little niggle I found with the car sorted as part of the sale.
Never (touch wood) had a single problem with it in a year's ownership and it's just turned 82K, paid for one service.
Rob.

£3000 for a MY94 WRX ra with 54000km (34000 miles) last September.
Owner had started to convert it to a track car and had already fitted AP 6 pots, full H&S decat exhaust, Cusco braces, HKS Coilovers and 17" STi alloys.
Also came with a spare STi gearbox, rear diff and Cusco clutch.
I've since stripped out the interior, adding Sparco seats & Sabelt harnesses. Also done some tweaks to bring it up to 300bhp.

import scoobys
Incidentally - i wouldnt waste my money on an import when there is **** loads of quality uk cars available.
Yeah on paper the classic JDM's are quicker & handle better but i'd rather have a uk car that i can prove the history and check the mileage.
Spend a bit of money on it for sti type suspension, engine management & stick an aftermarket backbox on it and you will have well over the stock sti 280bhp and the car will be worth tons more when you come to sell it.
Import cars are expensive as hell when you want one, but just try selling one and it has quite a sting in its tail.
While i'm ranting - isn't it interesting that the most of the classic imports all seem to be around 50k - 70k, KM on the clock & they hardly ever have the previous paperwork but yet the high mileage ones all seem to have the paperwork present.
I WONDER WHY THAT IS!

Import
If i was gonna take the bold step (gamble) of buying an import i'd buy a pulsar, skyline, 300zx, 350zx etc and get some proper value for money.
At least if it was clocked it would be reasonable and easy to maintain (maybe not pulsar) rather than mega bucks if scooby engine goes pop.
I dont know a lot about the technical side but i know enough that some scooby engines pop at 70k and others go on to 150 plus.
I personally wouldnt take the risk
but thats just me
xx
