depends what you want to do with the scoob - if you intend to keep one standard then buy a standard one. If you are going to buy one and then start modifying you could save money by buying a modded one - even one with engine mods providing they have been properly done...
so for me i'd go for a modded one as you can never leave them standard for long

When I was looking for my Scooby, I wanted a totally standard WRX (didn't mind exhaust/alloys upgraded)
Mine was sold as a totally standard Jap WRX 280bhp Model with Sti extras (interior/exterior, not engine) with 17in alloys and HUGE exhaust!
I dont think it is totally standard though, as after putting a boost gauge in (it was that standard, it didnt even have one!) it was boosting more than standard, but then never owning one before I don't really know what is standard??? Been told its probably chipped.
I should find out in Feb though as it will be paying a visit to the Rolling Road

When I bought mine I was totally new to Subaru's and didnt know anything about the mod's, pros / cons etc.
So for me at the time a non modded scoob was the safest bet, and the one I bought was exactly that.
After soaking up loads of info on here, I may be better placed to weigh up the pros / cons of buying an already modded car. I would feel safer doing that now than when I bought the car.
So my vote was for non-modded, as thats what my car was when I got it.

I personally imported my 1st direct from Japan many years ago, was new to imprezas so wanted a totally OE example.
My last one was for trackdays, plus with all the years of knowledge gained I was looking for one with certain upgrades, like brakes, suspension etc.
'Individual' mods that require a certain taste are usually avoided

If you know what to look for, then modded will save you quite a lot of money I don't plan on changing my Scooby for some time, but when I do, I'll be looking out for one with sensible, effective modifications, which meet my requirements, already done!
BUT a car that's been badly modded could cost you a fortune! SO best to get as std as possible if you're a newbie.

Doesn't matter, depends on price.
If I was buying an Impreza again now, it would be to make it into a bit of an animal. So I s'pose a lower mileage car with a nasty engine knock would be a good starting point as little of the standard kit would be left alone. Or a bog standard car with galactic mileage.

I'd only buy a standard one or one that was modified with Subaru or Prodrive parts only.
There is no way I'd buy a heavily modified one.
When I bought mine it was totally standard except for 18" Prodrive replica wheels. I did ask the garage if they had the originals but they's already got rid of them.

So, Mr Lewis was wrong yet again.
People DO buy modified Imprezas. More so infact than those who would only buy a standard one.

Absolutely bog standard . A lot of people wont agree but in my eyes the the most clever people on this planet by a country mile are the Japanese, they built it that way so thats the way it is staying.

Think the results are inconclusive to be honest im sure if you asked the majority of ppl on here they`d sooner buy a std low mileage one(not enough replies yet),fair enough we all know an impreza`s gonna get abused to an extent otherwise why buy one however heavily modded`s asking for trouble(imo) and to an extent would be slightly synical as to why theyre selling it-right or wrong you could have 2 identical models one std one heavily modded both could have been thrashed to within an inch of their lives, same condition/mileage you`d find me going for the std one even though i do mod my cars-the std one will always"appear" to have been driven more sensibly wether it has or not. i know but thats how it is.

The usual rules apply: you buy a car on condition, mods just mean that you have to assess the impact of the mods on the car's condition and longevity. If they've been intelligently selected and executed by people who know what they are doing; it's really not a problem and can save you a lot of money doing the mods yourself.
If you think that you won't want to mod then for goodness sake never drive a well uprated car.
Ns04 Low milage mint MY99 (30k)............ oh and modded by v reputable people to 320bhp........No, I'm not selling!!

Modified every time, its much cheaper in the long run as it will cost you twice as much to modify a standard car, and you will not have the total benefits for as long a time.
How may people have lost £000's modding and then selling for a fraction of the total cost of car and parts???
