same thing happened to mine. just started to get a hideous bottom end knock on a 95 wrx. i got rid asap, lost a lot of money on the car, but didnt have £2-3k for a full stronger engine rebuild. so muggins waited 2 months, couldnt handle not having a scoob, and bought another more expensive one lol.

upto you, depends how bad it is, and if maybe a breakers/garage ie scoobybits would give you a fair price for the car to put towards another.

good luck anyways, just speaking from past experience

tapping could be down to the hydraulic lifters (think your year has those), more fuel could be done to numerous things fuel pressure regulator, leaking injectors, knackered lambada.

cheapest option to be honest will be to take it to a specialist and get them to listen to it. Probably only cost you the petrol to get there

scoobybits, scoobyclinic, api, the list goes on and on. loads of places will have a listen for you. could be a small part in need of replacement, rather than the whole engine going bye bye. a specialist will be straight honest with you, like jason at scoobybits was with me. "andy" he said, "that engine is fooked, and is gonna dye eventually"

"bugger"

lol but it worked.
