PZeros - pants in the wet......
#1
I've had the Scoob a while now, and am not impressed with my 204/45/17 PZeros.....
In the dry they are mediocre, in the wet they are pants, it may just be the increased power of the might that is the Scoob, but the car tends to drift round roundabouts and corners rather easily and i'm not going that fast (honest)....
This has probably been done to death already - but whaddya recommend Scoob Gurus?

I found them pretty awful as well. Changed mine as soon as i could and got S02's, much better, as i think most will agree. Toyo Proxies supposed to be pretty good as well.
Cheers

...towards the hedge / crash barrier / lorry on the inside lane / squirrel / 50ft drop.....
I had to call on all my skill (didn't take long!) to avoid hitting the inside barrier on one roundabout, it went a bit slippy, so I steered in and let off slightly - BIG MISTAKE - it slipped more, so I went for the right foot down a bit steer a bit method, which seemed to work ...with a bit more steering jiggery pokery I ended up going forwards in the right lane - PHEWWW.
And contemplated the price of a new set of tyres all the way home...

Totally agree. They are scary in the wet, especially around round abouts. Anything more than a sedate pace and the front tyres are sliding all over the place. Must get new tyres soon.

I'm surprised that people still use the PZero's when there are so many better tyres out there!
I know first hand, NEVER to use PZero's ever again! They were on my car for about a week before swapping back to my trusted Bridgestone SO2's again!
Obviously this is my own opinion and I don't care whether Ferrari's, Porsches or whatever else uses them as well!!

Twas before I found this place Sire, I was but a lonely Scoob purchaser out there in the wilderness, and I was recommended Pirelli PZeros for my steed by my dealer, I paid many groats for them too!!!!!!
Time for a change methinks.....

If the truth be told , Pirellis are only on ye olde WRC car, because they used to contribute, and still do, a large wedge of cash into the coffers at Prodrive. Why do you think Mr Mcraes car suddenly sprouted Pirellis at the start of this season??
You will even find Allstars ( the customer team arm of Prodrive ) recommending the competitiors tyre, to customers who use their own cash on the tyres. Michelin cars won 13 or 14 of the 17 rounds in this seasons WRC, ALL of the tarmac rounds and half of the gravel rounds
I have am about to order my new WRX, but you can bet your bottom dollar the first thing I do will be fit Michelin Pilot Sports on her...
They will show up the Pirellis for the sh*te that they are. If your car is well set up geometry wise, they will last a long old time to...

P-Zeros are not the worst, but there are certainly better tyres out there, but IMHO the Mich Pilots are not great either. Noisy, light on grip, but slide consistently due to that persistent lack of grip. No tramlining either
S-03s are under rated IMHO - with the caveat that they are not great out of the box as it takes a while to get to the grippy compound. Once into the nice stuff, it is all
All the best with your final choice.

Pzeros - Not good tyres for impreza (IHMO etc), apart from the fact I had one which went bang at high speed on the M4 (Cracked Sidewall problem ), they are short of grip in the dry and very short of grip in the wet... IMHO the levels of grip offered is a significant amount less than any other I have had, including (very briefly) marshalls! Anyway, much happier with goodyear F1's, and much cheaper too, Bonus!

ZZ1's are pants ... they squeel like a pig in the dry round corners and in the wet, well .....
Went on to the Toyo website and got some nice free brochures sent through - lovely!!! Trying my best to wear the ZZ1's out as quick as poss which is fun, can't wait to get the T1-S proxes on as I know from Chris L's old car they allow the car to go faster around corners in the wet than ZZ1's in the dry (and they are cheaper!).

I've had 16" SO-3 PP's on the Terzo for about 6 months now.
They just keep getting better. The wet grip is just bl00dy amazing. They do take a while to scrub but are a super tyre.
There you go my 2p's worth.

Have only every had P-Zero's on my 17"s for the last 10K miles. In the dry on the road I have never reached the limit of the tyre (and I assume nor should I).
However in the wet, the front does progressively break away.........
But don't all tires do this?
J
Edited cos I can't spell when doing 5 things at once

I've just changed from P zero's to toyo's proxy - toyo's definately feel safer in wet, but I wouldn't say any tyre is safe to push it in the wet.
I have to say tho they dont seem to dig in as well as p zero's did on fast corners, but maybe toyo's need bit more bedding in before I can make a true judgement.

had pzeros on Fiat Coupe 20v turbo which seemed to grip really well, better than the Falkens on the evo, tho the evo is still so much (much much) quicker.
Maybe different tyres suit different cars better

Can't comment on PZeros, but the Toyo's I got fitted when I got new 17" wheels are the dog'a danglies!
Major improvement over the OEM tyres. Very nice in both wet and dry conditions.
Mind you, I never drive at anything other than a safe speed for the conditions. Officer.

Just bedded in some F1's (GS-D2) and they are a damn site better than the OEM RE010's. Might try T1's in 12k miles or so to compare, then again the F1's are fantastic round corners...

I ran some PZeros for a while at 37 front 34 rear, and whilst they weren't great in the wet they were OK. The biggest problem I found is that the shoulders wear off very quickly, then they tramline a lot.

Stop moaning ladies i've got dunlop 2000's on my original MY97 wheels & they suck n all 1st time i've had 2 take my foot off accelerator since i've had the car, admittedly only a month or so, when going round a roundabout not excessively quickly but suddenly got a large portion of understeer. Thought i'd hit black ice or sumin Scary as 1st time i've not felt in total control of the car & i really haven't been takin the **** & testing it 2 the limits just yet although clearly these tryes are sumwot limited themselves
