Co-Driver Opportunity
#1
Hi All
For the next 6 months (maybe more) the Driving Techniques rally team will be
without co-driver.
Instead of finding a replacement for the full six months, I thought it would be kinda cool to share it round a bit.
If you think you would be up to the task and would like to co-drive for an event you will need the following qualities...
- Seriously organised
- Able to concentrate when sideways at high speed, after an early morning after a sleepless night!
- Able to accept all blame and no credit!
- Available at weekends for testing / training
No previous experience is necessary, the events we will be doing for the 6 months are actually pretty easy on a co-driver. The main tasks are making sure everything is organised and that we get to the stage starts on time.
Then it's usually calling bends from a stage map, and writing down notes that I shout back to be used if a later stage uses the same bend, etc.
The team pays for all tyres, fuel, repairs (ehem! - which will be deemed to have been your fault! ), servicing, etc, etc. but, as is the norm for a co-driver, you will be expected to contribute the entry fee for the event (ranging between £100 and £250 ish usually) and may have to hire a race suit if you don't own one and don't fit into our
spare. You will also need a competition licence, but we can sort that out.
Let me or Ian Watkins (Team Manager (iwatkins@netcomuk.co.uk)) know if you would like more info.
Cheers
Simon

Sounds interesting....
Just not sure about the "next six months, maybe more" bit. Have you not had an accurate estimate of how long it will take to repair your previous co-driver

LOL - I'm the same
Tim
Yeah, that's kind of important!
Rich!!
Alec
Don't sound too enthusiastic!!
Pete
LOL - One of the main reasons I have only ever co-driven once!

LOL - We have the technology!
The reason for the six months is... My current co-driver has other commitments which means he won't be available at weekend for the next 6 months or so.
We just intend doing a few single venue event in that time. Lots of fun making more powerful cars feel silly
Thanks for the interest. If you would like to try it out, let me know and you should come along to a test session and see how you think you would get on.
Cheers

First of all, let me say hi to all the people on the bbs who have put information on the board that helped me in getting my MY00, which is having its 1000 mile service today. I have been lurking for all of the six months since I ordered it from Holland and you have kept me sane!
Back on topic, I would be really interested in co-driving, although I have no experience. If co-driving is not on, then I would also be interested in helping the team in any way that would be useful.

I'll have a go, but could you cope with an Evo owner in the passenger seat ?
Got my own 3 layer nomex and a none-race national B licence.
And I've done some road-rally navigation a few years ago (In a Mk2 cortina - so nerves of steel now) with a couple of trophies at the end
