Comparison day at Alconbury(cambridgeshire)
#1
Hi all,I have been asked to gather a list of ten fast(arent they all?)Subarus for a comparison day at Alconbury Airfield.
I need 10 definates and maybe 5 reserves .The dates are EITHER
27TH OR 28TH July 2002.
The day will consist of standing 1/4,0-60,0-100 and absolute max. And more than likely some flying laps around course.
There will be a couple of top magazines there and television!!
As it stands this second in time it will cost £50,it should in the end turn out to be a freebie once deals are done with the appropriate magazines and tv companies, these things take time so we should know a little nearer the time.
Anyone interested drop me an e-mail and I will keep you all informed as time gets nearer.
Kind Regards
Simon

i'm organising it, and can assure you it wont be max power. however, the event and timing gear is expensive, which is why i'm doing my best to pull in a big mag, and a top tuner (or two), to cover some (maybe all ) costs.
sat 27th july is the date, and yes it will take that long to organise.
the top ten from the following will (hopefully) be there :
200+ club (mine)
RS
Skylines
Supras
evos, maybe RX7 and 200sx clubs, plus a few invited cars.
oh and hopefully a 604bhp porsche thats done 243.6 mph officially!
so its hopefully going to be a mega day. invited spectating at £5 p person.
more details over next few weeks/months etc

This all sounds a bit interesting,
You might want to post on the 200sx board if you want a few of us lesser mortals aboard!

What's the actual objective of the event then? Is it just to see who's got the fastest cars in a straight line? I can tell you one thing, it won't be a Scoob.
I'm all for comparisons, but just find the whole straight line thing a tad boring now. Scoobs have already wiped the floor with Cossies at Alconbury so have nothing to prove.
Pity a similar thing couldn't be done at a proper circuit so all the car's (and drivers) characteristics could be taken into account. Yes, it would cost more but would be so much more informative, and fun. Why don't you get everyone over to The Ring at Easter. Now that WOULD be interesting.
Just a thought.
Stef.

completely agree with you, so many events are all about straight line speed, much rather see a comparison on the track. Surely it wouldn't cost that much more for a track

Thanks for the input guys,The point of the day is to have some fun
seeing exactly what our cars are capable of performance wise, and then to compare what we do against other cars in differing states of tune.
I think we are all in agreement that on a track would be much more entertaining, but how many of the cars would end up being
dragged out of a gravel trap?(we would all be giving it death to be quickest, wouldnt we?!)
At least this way there should be no great offs and fun should be had by all.
You can be sure that the fastest car in a straight line will not be a scoob but does it really matter?
We will all have very accurate timing figures to band about at the next meet!

the idea is a timed 1/4 mile, or standing 1/2 mile, with one lane continuing to go onto a top speed run measured at 1.2miles distance. the other lane circles back to either the start, or can go to a set aside circuit, where a peed and time will be given after a lap. its definitely set up to compare the lap times /speed, as well as the straight line stuff!!!! thats the idea!
i've been to to many top speed only events, its very tiring queuing, and of little interest other than for top speed etc.
this should be different. i accept it wont be a full track, but with a set aside circuit as well as the other stuff it should be fun
