Unhappy Broken Cam Belt Cog

My poor scoob's broken down and it's gone into the garage (MY96 Turbo), they have come back saying that one of the cam belt cogs has totally shattered!! I had my cam belt changed 2000 miles ago, could this be anything to do with the cam belt change?
I'm expecting the valves have been bent, anyone had one of these go before? If so what kind of damage was caused and how much money do I need to start saving?!

Hey U!!
I've had nothing but trouble with the scoob over the last few months, water pump seized, wheel bearing broke and then I had to buy a new hub! Now this! I'm thinking my scoob may be cursed!
I Love that car so i'm totally gutted!
You still have the scoob??

What do you expect though having a classic held together with chewing gum

Did the same garage do the work last time? maybe they over tightened the belt? is a possibility, although they are only made of bakelite, so this could happen, although not heard of it before.

Hope there isnt too much damage

and if you need any bits, send me a PM, I have some spare heads/pulleys etc

No not yet, I should find out if there is any damage to the engine before the end of the week, to be honest they have told me to expect the worst! The house sale should go through in jan so it means I will be able to afford to fix it and fix it I will!!!!

Ha! The chewing gum is still there and it's been fine since, that's just another job that will have to be done in the new year!

Glad to hear you didn't get rid of the scoob!
