Got the same noise on 52 Bugeye WRX. According to Subaru garage it is a "missing brake caliper anti rattle spring". It means the pads are moving forwards / back the first time you brake in either direction.

I am told it is perfectly safe to use - just annoying. Especially as it was OK before the dealer changed the front pads!!

Over rough surfaces my pads even rattle in the caliper.

PS I'm a newbie. Been an owner 18 months. Still loving it. Excellent Forum.

Yep it's the pads moving slightly in the caliper.

There is a cure for this that involves removing pads and filling holes with araldite (sp?) and re drilling smaller holes.

This is a common thing with aftermarket pads, but as mentioned, not really a problem just a bit of a PITA..!

The brakes clunking once in reverse, and then once in forwards is normal on the OEM Brembos.
Loud squealing in reverse is also normal!!
