Thumbs up look at these...good deal?

£33.00

i am needing to change all my tyres and have found this deal
RTecShop.com - 205/40/R17 ZR BCT Tyres

my tyres are 205/45/17 and the ones on offer are 205/40/17, what part of the tyre is 40 or 45? can these go on my car and what difference will the size change make?
thanks

Sara, these are the same width as yours - 205mm, but they are slightly lower profile at 40% of the width rather than 45% as with yours. So they will be a little smaller on the diameter. This will probably help improve the feel of the car a little (depending if they are a reasonable quality tyre) and increase acceleration too. Seems an good deal to me. All IMHO of course.

Sara,

The 205/45 is +5mm different to the the original 205/50x16, the 205/40 is
-15mm which is quite a bit smaller and as the tyre wears will get smaller still,

The 40 45 is the profile of the tyre or the %width of the tread = the size of the tyre wall, so if the tyre had a width of 100mm then the tyre wall would be 40mm if it were a 40 profile.

From the link it looks like these tyres are Nexen, my personal opinion is I'd not put these on a performance car and then get in it !!, at the end of the day you get what you pay for, Toyo's can be had for about £70 each fitted, balanced etc... I know that's double, but that's were my money would be going.

Certainly cheap - but is that a good thing?

IMHO, they look cheap and nasty. I clad a Reliant Robin in those, let alone a performance car.

It also depends what you want out of the tyres - performance, durability etc?

Just my opinion, of course, but I'd be looking at something a little better.

A "Sport" is still a performance car.......... just not as "*****-out" as the Turbo

Sara,
Size is the same as the turbo, so in that respect things are the same, I would still want to be able to go round corners and stop though !!

215/40 x 17 is the correct size (although some poeple will argue this), the 215 width fits better on the 7J width wheels.

Sara,

You need 215/40x 17 or 205/45x 17 these are the only 2 sizes close to the original, the 215 is a bit better as it has a wider tread and therefore if you look at the wheel from above the tyre is the same (or a bit wider) than the wheel, the 205 is usually a bit narrower, this making it easier to kerb and as the side wall is a bit bigger the tyre will roll a bit more, I think more manufactures make the 215 also.

205/40 is the WRONG size.

Thumbs up

Sara,
Not sure where you are but I know a couple of good places near Bracknell, Berkshire, I've litterally just bought 4xToyo T1R's for £293 (fitted etc...) 215/40x17.
Let me know if you need the details.
Don't skimp on tyres, you wouldn't buy cheap shoes !!

This might be useful Sara Tire size calculator

Put in the stock tyre size and then the sizes you are considering

Sara, Pan Autos in southdown are really good and are very well priced.

They sell all the big name brands, also if your tyre that you want is not in stock, they will have in the next day.

They don't like Toyos as I found out on wednesday. If you want Toyos, which I really like, The T1-R's are the newer and better than the old T1-S which I have got in size 215/40/17 W. Have a look on the toyo website ( Toyo Tire ) to find your nearest dealer.

Ive been there quite a few times with my previous car, Astra and they have been brilliant.

I have never liked R-Tec

Never be afraid of cheap tyres, There is alot of scarmongering on here about tyres, as there is about oil, at the end of the day if you are not using your car to set a lap record on a track day and you are not planning on driving like a comlpete tawt on the road then cheap tyres are execllent value,Some will out perform some of the expensive brands in certian circumstances!
