Red face Embarrassing, or what!

Took delivery of my MY05 JDM STi two days ago and went out to the pub at lunchtime today with a load of customers, two of whom wanted to ride in the Scooby.

Forgot it had an anti-hijack device, and left the "dongle" in the office....

Won't be forgetting it again!

Have now discovered - thanks Andy - how to defeat it without the dongle so won't be happening again I hope!!

Just wait until the first time your other half drops you off at work, leaving you and the dongle in the office. I still remember the anguished phone call from half a mile up the road...

Yeah does sound a bit embarrising mate! But look on the bright side, atleast you got the chance to show off your flashy security feature! Surprised you got anywhere in it without the dongle... to be honest I'd be warey of getting one of those - just another thing for me to lose / forget and do the same!

Hope your enjoying the car btw.

the idea of being able to get somewhere is that you get jacked, you get out walk away and a few hundred yards away the car cuts out on the thief by which time your nowhere to be found so they can't give you a kickin for the transponder.

Just don't attach it to the keys as a friend did, kinda defeats the object of it really!!!

Very much so! Haven't quite got a good driving position sorted yet, and my fast gear changes leave a little to be desired, but it not surprisingly beats the 320d I had before in (almost) every way!

I learnt the term dongle in relation to PCs - we used to get software at work that only worked if you had a "dongle", which was a small item you plugged in to the PC, often on the parallel port. The software would check for it's presence before running. See Dongle - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the context of the anti-hijack device, the "dongle" must be in close proximity to the car otherwise the car won't run.

HTH.
