Question what is the 97 turbo ppp ecu boost peak?

Hi all. just got the ppp ecu fitted to my car and was wondering what peak boost should be (in Bar). At the moment the car runs on shell v power has a K &n panel filter, a magnex back box and center resonator removed. It seams to peak and hold boost in 1st-3rd gears around 0.9 bar and peak and hold 4th-5th gear at 1 bar. The difference over the standard ecu is noticeable, not loads but does hold on to boost a lot longer aswell. The boost comes in around the same as the old ecu, according to some mags I have been reading they say the boost comes in at 2400 rpm not around the 4000 rpm mine is. Does any of this sound about right?

I had a 96 turbo that seemed to boost at around 4000 rpm, late arrival but more of a kick in the stomach compared to my MY00 which is more progressive but begins at 2500 rpm - more usable I think

Just been on the dyno scooby site and it seems these ecus kick in at around 3700-4000 rpm so sounds about right. Also just been on a run out tonight and the boost does seem to peak just over 1 bar but definately not 1.1 bar as some of the other scoobynetters say they get. This could be my boost guage reading wrong though or maybe the waste gate solenoid needing a clean? maybe?

Scott Taylor will know this a lot better than I; but I think that its about 13.4psi. (perhaps that was for the C-Series cars?).

Question

its about 13.4psi.

I heard some thing similar GC8, was just wondering how this could be though as the standard car pushed out 0.9 bar in top gear which is around 13.4 psi and the new ecu is just a tad over 1 bar which is around 14.8 psi. Maybe my boost guage is over reading? Just talked to Mike Wood the other day and he said the ecu should push out just over 1 bar which is around the 14.8 psi mark but other scooby netters are saying they are getting up to 16 psi peak! How come? confused? I am

Could be the boost guage used? Mine reads just over 16psi in 4/5th. and just under 15psi in 2nd and 3rd. It's pretty crap though wouldn't you say? I've seen these ECU's going for over £300, no way worth that kind of money, and if you paid the £2000 odd to get it done new........

I bought a Prodrive ECU for my MY98, I wouldn't say it is a waste of money. Peak power doesn't increase much, but low down torque/midrange/response has improved dramatically! The car is much more enjoyable to drive.

I let a Dawes/TurboXS control the boost, as this gives faster spoolup and no boost spikes, pressure set to 1.2 bar.

I would not say its crap, its better than before which is always a bonus. I would not be too impressed if I had bought it new or second hand for £300, but for £140 delivered, I doubt you would get anything bhp and torque wise for that money

£140 bargain mate. I should have said it's pretty crap compared to the other PPP's and aftermarket solutions.

Cheers for the replys AC. I knew what you meant in your last post. Just had a look at my boost guage, its a 43mm blitz jobby and it measures the boost in KG CM SQUARED. Now here is a daft question for you! That reading is a BAR reading isnt it?

I see where your problem is, it's not quite the same, 1 KG CM2 is 0.98 ish bar or 14 ish PSI.

Hope this helps mate.

Right here we go. The boost guage is in kg cm2 which means it is boosting at around 14.2 psi with the ppp ecu when you do a conversion. Thats a load of crap I think. Its got to be this boost guage reading wrong. I always thought it was reading in BAR not this kg crap. Time for a cheap new boost guage instead of this expensive one that reads wrong If this guage is reading fine though what could be the reason its boosting so low?
