depnding on what it sounded like might be one very poorly engine, think you need to get it to a specialist and see what they say, might be something minor or it might be rebuild time

Sounds worryingly like big end failure. Does it dissapear when warm, or is it constant?

In either event, take it to a specialist for diagnosis - I.e. don't condemn your engine without someone who knows what's what looking at it.

depending on budget mught be engine upgrade time

you know what mate, i really feel for you. this happened to me less than two weeks ago. started knocking like hell, took it to jason at scoobybits, and the prognosis wasnt good. big ends going from engine knock, either a 2k rebiuld (on a 95 wrx) or a second hand engine. i had no money for either so sold it to a garage for what ever i could get on it. i was absolutley gutted, and its still upsetting me now.

with the money fromthe sale i got a little pug diesel run-a-round, but its not the same as having admiring looks from people either from the exhaust etc. but hey im an attention seeker.

i hope you have some money in the bank to get it fixed or at least get a decent price for it to put towards another one. i know ive learnt my lesson from buying with my heart not my head.

good luck anyways pongo

why not use this misfortune and upgrade ur engine. Get a rebuild with forged internals u can then run big power 400+

You wont change the bottom end without lifting the engine out.

If mine went knocking (which im expecting as 84k) I would DIY the engine, im not a mechanic and have virtually no experience but I lern very quickly.
Hire a lift, get it out. Take apart rebuild with forged internals other uprated jiggery pokery
