Default Reverse bonnet scoops- any real benefit

Now I have a front mount it seems real hot under-bonnet, probs as the top mount was reflecting and absorbing quite a lot of heat.

Are reversed bonnet scoops particularly functional? I'm not really in to cosmetic mods...

Nope not IMHO. What you need is bonnet louvres. The air passing over them creates a vacuum so all the warm air is sucked out. If you also open the grill area up so you have more incoming air this will also help.

The RCMS one works well, which is a louvered design, but it isnt cheap.

Mine works quite well actually....there's loads of heat rising from it at standstill and it's like one of those hand dryers when the fans kick in. I can only imagine what it's like once moving:

so a reverse scoop is going to work the same , the air passes over it and the hot air will be sucked out the rear of scoop same as with louvres

have a look at this one too!

Milsport

Scroll down a bit to see. You don't get a large bird to increase postage costs either.

They also do another style which is a scoop that is turned around to face backwards. It can be found in the classic-exterior section.

I have a FMIC too and am seriously interested in RCM's reverse vent. Just can't get my head around the price - £300

if your running a front mount it def is better for a reverse scoop, but tbh makes it look like and evo not having one so i'd keep it that way round anyway.

My RCMS Carbon one for my classic took a little getting used to the "look", but i do like it, and the fit and quality is typical RCMS. It is also very very light in comparison to other reversed scoops i have held.

It is expensive, i agree, but it works well, and suits the car well IMO.

Only picture i can find quickly JapShow - 2005 Photo

Just to play devils advocate, I am considering a reversed scoop but have heard that changing the airflow away from OE design can have a negative effect, gearbox cooling perhaps?

Seeing as it is a well known fact that the original never did what it was meant to do anyway (becuase of airflow over the bonnet) cannot see it makes any difference what way it faces in respect of gearbox cooling !!
