Am I missing a part of my PPP?
Bought my 03 WRX PPP last Friday, and I've got the PPP certificate, Prodrive back box, Prodrive intercooler pipe and (hopefully) the PPP ecu!
I've been perusing various websites today to consider further modifications (already ) and from pictures, it looks like I should have a straight through centre section on the exhaust also....is this right?
If it is, then I'm missing a bit as there's definately a "box" in my centre section.....making me worry now that I've been had and it may not even have the ecu on it!
How would I check the ecu?
Dave

There will be a box in your centre section it is the resonator, they remove the cat and refit a resonator box. It looks all standard but the new box will be shinier than the rest of the pipe, and fatter than the original cat box.

Ah ok....pipes have been on the car for three years so I suspect the shinyness has gone a bit by now!!! I'm happier now....I was expecting a straight through section!
So.... can I fit a straight through centre section to the Prodrive back box?

Yes you can but why do you want to? People buy non-resonated centre sections becuase they are cheaper; thats the only reason. Its better not to mess with what you dont understand.

I just remember that on my previous Impreza (imported wrx) the exhaust I fitted (Scorpion if I recall) was straight through
If there's no benefit to be had then you're right.....there's other parts to spend money on......would I benefit from an uprated dv or is the standard one adequate?

Without the resonator youll get a lot of cabin drone. A simple centre section on a Classic will cost about £80 less without the resonator and thats the principal reason that theyre common. H&S are adamant that their resonated centre section is just as efficient as the simple straight through one...

The you should have a CAT replacement Pipe which is directly underneath the gearbox, then there should be the resonator section, which then goes into the Prodrive backbox.
I have my old 2nd Cat in the shed will take a photo if you like to see if its the same.

Stick with standard DV in my opinion Dave.
This topic is worth considering from another angle.... I'm assuming "benifit" = "power"
Rather than just look at more bhp I would look more at handling modifications first.... springs or coilovers then uprated drop links and uprated anti roll bar on the rear of the car, also get the alignment looked at this will help handling plus give a more even tyre wear.
Have you got your name down for our next meet in Cardiff ?

Dave, the de-cat centre looks like this in the old heat sheild casing. I too was concerned so went and had a look under a standard WRX. Pre-PPP the cats lip where it is joined together can be seen between the casings. There is more room inside the heat sheild as it was formed to fit around the cat and now its just a pipe. I too have fitted a de-resonated centre pipe from H&S which has made the car better to drive at lower revs.
Hope this helps.
