Fuel guage and light
Got round to filling up this morning for the first time since picking the car up on Friday. Now normally I am used to seeing a fuel light not far after 1/4 tank left on my old car and the other one we own.
So this morning pottering to work I am still shocked to see the needle sitting almost on the E line and still no light. So not wanting to get stuck incase it doesn't work I pull in a Shell station and fill up. I managed to get 47 litres in before it decided enough was enough, if I am right there was another 13 litres still in the car (60 litre tank, 53 plate I think that's right).
Looks like I was being a bit over cautious, do I need to run the needle right down onto the E line to get a fuel warning light then?
Loved every moment so far of ownership...except for the squeek on the thottle pedal.

Sorry I did forget to say it is a 2003 STI, and I can see a small circle that looks to be the fuel light. Perhaps I have to run it even lower to light the thing up. Not a very brave person when it comes to fuel in the tank I have to say.
Just wondered what other peoples gauges said before the light does come on.

You should get a fuel light (assuming the bulbs working..) just on or very slightly above the last bar/line, can vary a little and will come on a bit earlier if your cornering (ie roundabouts).
By all accounts you then have 2 gal/9 ltrs left, on mine (05 WRX) I once had to drive ~25 miles on the light (off boost..) and the needle will cover the top bar of the 'E'.
However, especially with the STi for some reason, you're best filling up before you get near the light to prevent the possibility of fuel surge/starvation during hard cornering, a know problem. Strangely, something I've never encountered..

The light on a 98 Classic used to come on sooner if the car was facing down hill - actually came on quite a bit sooner as would often start the car facing downhill on the drive, the light would come on only to go out when moving & not come on again for another 5 miles. Not sure if newer model is so sensitive to gradiant but might be worth trying next time fuel is low. (unless you live in Holland or Norfolk!).

Old ground i'm sure, and i'm awaiting a flaming for my first post, but....
My MY99 UK AWD 2000 is currently on the E, and i've got no light, so drove to work 10miles, and i've still got no light, do i play fuel roulette, or have i not got a light, even though all MY98> should have them, i can't see it's 'shadow' in daylight.
