Who's ever destroyed a turbo on their Scooby?
A post by SCOO8Y-MAD about leaving your engine running and turbo timers got me thinking......
Now there's lot's of Subaru turbos out there many used and abused, wrong oil, stretched service intervals, many shut down improperly many boosted to within an inch of their life.
How many of you have had a turbo failure and why?
I spoke to a Scooby mechanic and he said in 12 years he's never seen a turbo failure!!??!! and to be honest I can't ever remember seeing a heavy smoking Sub turbo!
Cheers,
Plums...

never seen one destroyed under normal use, without buggering about with settings.
Bearing in mind Subaru uk recommend shell helix which is only a semi synthetic oil, although I did blow the top out of a brand new P1 engine due to a manufacturing problem on the turbo, the outlet pipe from turbo to wastegate was peened over inside, so scooby put a leg out of the bed due to overboost, quite a claim to fame, and it was not my fault!!!

My VF24 failed last week, nobody can explain why!. Car has a full Subaru service history and has 57000 miles on the clock, infact the turbo only lasted 20000 miles. Yes its was always warmed up/cooled down, before anyone comments.
My Mec seems to think it has somthing to to with the Forge Blow-off ventil.
Anyway got a brand new VF29 in now, lets see how that goes.

The stock TD04 and TD05 are good 'ol fashioned robust units.
Quite understandable, seeing its not exactly sooper dooper ceramic ball bearing twinscroll variable vane stuff. But then it is a bargain bucket low range 4 door saloon car.

The standard turbo on my STI 3 RA went pop a few weeks back, it was propper fcuked
Had only covered 19K miles, actually less than that as 5K or so was in KM.
I was sort of expecting it to go running 1.4 bar (and the previous owner had run anti lag) but not only 1 month after buying the car
