Default I'm a new 'un!!

Morning everyone, hopefully some time this week I'll be a scooby owner (only waited 10 years to get one!)

Could do with a few bits of info though please.....

I'm in Rotherham south yorkshire and just wondered if you guys know of anywhere to get a tracker fitted and how much I'd be looking at for one?

Also could do with a couple of good insurance company numbers?

The Motor I'm looking at is a T-reg UK 4dr Turbo, it's got 70k with fsh, magnex exhaust, dump valve and subaru stickers on the doors. They are the only mods.

SHould there be anything in particular to look out for??

Sorry if all these questions have been answered before but I'm really new to Impreza's, I used to be really into VW's.

Thanks in advance
RACK

Welcome.

Trackers are around £399 fitted, plus £120 a year subscription. However, they are not a necessity for some insureres, if that is your reason for wanting one. Different if you were spending £10-15K on a car, but I presume you are spending around £5K - £5.5K - for the first year at least, your insurance costs will be over a grand, including the cost of a tracker.

Best thing you can do when buying a scoob is to look at lots of them, and drive them and get a feel for them - and be prepared to walk away if there is the slightest thing bothering you.

Personally I wouldn't touch a car that had been modded in any way - But that's just paranoid old me

Thanks for the reply.

Just been on to my broker and a tracker isn't needed as long as i have a cat 1 alarm on it. Is the Factory Signum system cat 1??

I've looked at a few now, the imports I looked at were a bit rough and I test drove a "bug eye" model. The one I might be having is a nnice and tidy and doesn't seem abused. I know what you mean about buying a standard one and the exhaust and dump valve is the only thing this has got on it, so it's not too bad.
Took it for a drive and not one bang or rattle, no blue or black smoke from the back and the turbo spooled up fine.

If I can sort a bank loan out today then it could be mine in the next few days.

I'd be payin £5k and my vectra SRi120 for the Impreza.

Plus My younger bro has just bought a 225 TT so really want to show him how a proper 4wd turbo car should do it

I believe the MY99 models had a Thatcham cat 1 alarm fitted as standard, so yes - Just make sure the vendor has the certificate, because you will need to send this to your insurer. If he hasn't got one, I believe you can take it to an auto security place an they can issue you with a certificate.

Presumably if you are doing a part ex - then it is a dealer, the only other thing I would suggest is that he does an HPI check in front of you (which he will probably do as standard anyway) and what sort of warranty is he offering?

A-Plan is a good option for insurance. Don't have the no handy, but you'll find it through a google search.

Nice one. Yeah, it's a dealer. He used to have a car lot not far from me but now he just deals in Impreza's. Every one he had was a FSH low miles car and just about all were standard.

Don't think there is a warrenty but I'll ask him tonight if I go up and put a deposite down on it. I've still got to check through the history of the car yet, so if anything doesn't add up, I'm walking away.

Right, something doesn't seem right with the Scoob I was planning to buy so am gonna walk away from it, but think I might go for an import WRX. Seen a nice one for around £4k so if can get out of work early tomorrow I'm gonna go look at it.

What's the main thing to look for with imports, I know they can be a bit hit and miss. Also do they only run on optimax? Round here the best petrol I can get it BP Ultimate, would this be ok to run a WRX on?

Sorry for the questions but I'm really new to imports and subaru's

Yeah, Jase is a top bloke and the other lad who works there remembered me from me Corado G60 days.

CAn't wait to get in it.

Insurance isn't too bad as it's only cost me £260 to swap cars over till January and they aren't pushing me to get a tracker fitted. Although from what I've heard they aren't worth the money????

As soon as I get it I'll pop some pics up. Still not sure about the lexus lights it has on it though......

I am sure he would do you a p/x for a set of standard rear clusters. If it is the black N reg on the website I would be tempted to get rid of the Lexus lights.

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes.

One more quick question.
Will the WRX run ok on Super unleaded? I usally use BP Ultimate as Optimax is miles away from me.

Yeah it's the n-reg on the website. Def gonna loose the lexus rear lights mate, gonna keep my eyes out for a set of STi rears for it.

Just been for a quick spin in it and I'm wel impressed!

Then Jase took me out in his 2door TypeR, JESUS! What a weapon!

I'll pop up to tesco in a min and see if they do the 99ron at the station near work.
