Does a freshly imported JDM STi 03 require immediate remap?
Can a standard JDM STi 03 be driven using Tesco 99 octane, or does it have to have an immediate remap for UK fuel? Or no remap but octane booster must be used?

I'd be inclined to run it on Tesco 99 or V-Power plus octane booster just to be on the safe side until you can get it to a reputable mapper. Call me paranoid, but better safe than sorry.
Drive it fairly gently and you'll be OK anyway.

You can run it on v power happily, never run mine on tesco but wouldnt recommend it, v power shows no det on my knocklink, unmapped JDM MY03 Spec C 
Previous to that i ran optimax and octane booster.
Fit a knocklink

Thanks chaps! I'll see if Bob Rawle can supply and fit a knocklink, as I've already emailed him re an ECU remap for UK fuel quote.

I could be wrong but wouldn't Optrimax and OB have meant that you were running on 100 Octane i.e. what the car was designed to run on, so why would it have been retarding at all?

I have to say that it was a new tank of optimax so there could have been a problem there (ie they put something else in the tank rather than optimax).
I should also say that having a uk remap doesnt mean your not going to get det, so take note on that.

no indication of any out of the ordinary type noise Knocklink advice very good and should be noted by the poster. You don't want det to go unoticed on these cars! Remap makes this significantly less likely, but you can always get a dodgy batch of fuel and you want to know about it asap!!

To answer the original question, you will be fine on 99 octane as long as you retain the std exhaust. If you decat then expect overboost induced det, possibly leading to lower performance as the ecu over compensates.
