Default V-Power POI for TomTom users :)

After the last Optimax POI that I did for TomTom sat nav devices last year, I decided it was time for another one for Shell’s new V-Power.

This one has been done with the help of someone that works for Shell. However these are not perfect so please don’t expect millimeter precision. Also there are some sites in Scotland that may not exist as far as V-Power goes. I would ask that if anyone knows the sites that should not be on this POI, then please let me know the name as it appears in TomTom and I can delete it and keep updating the file accordingly.

Anyway, the file is located here http://www.box.net/public/vhjrqyn8je

Download the file, unzip it and place the two files (VPower.bmp and VPower.ov2) into the folder normally called Great_Britain (or similar) on your SD or CF card (or whatever type you’re using).

If you download POI Converter here http://rjdavies.users.btopenworld.co...converter.html it'll do what you require.

Thanks Robocop. Have added them to my TomTom Go 700.
I already had someones else's Shell garage one, but TBH never really used it as it could not be trusted.
I needed it badly once, and it sent me to an ALDI store! LOL.
Suffice to say, i never trusted it again

Hi MaDaSS

I’ll be interested in some feedback to see how accurate this is.

First impressions are good. I was browsing the map for the ones i use regularly, ok i know where they are, but i was checking the position on the TomTom, and so far only one of them is slightly out, BUT, you would not go past the garage following the route to it, if you see what i mean.
It is certainly good enough to get you there, which is all that matters.
Next time i am out and about and need fuel i will try it out

I tried searching on Shell's website for v Power shops near Brands Hatch a couple of weeks ago as I was going down to drive a PPP Spec D there on Subaru's behalf at a Charity event. The nearest one it listed doesn't exist (and never has done unless it sold coal in the age of steam trains!) and the the 3rd nearest is closed for renovation so I'm guessing the base information may not be too up to date.

Sorry Mike, are you saying the info on the POI is out or on Shell's website (or both)?

Shell's website. Not sure where the other info originates from but I would have thought that it would have started at Shell as they 'should' know where their sites are!!

So do you have a TomTom device to check if the file I posted if any better. Hopefully you'll have something of more use ready for the next time you go to Brands.

I don't have a TomTom as my 2.5XT has satnav already and I can't justify the expense at the moment. I did actually know where the V Power shop was near Brands but I thought I see if there were any alternatives that were closer..........

Have changed most of the glasgow area v-power sites. ( not claimed to be exhaustive but a lot better now). Also merged with my POI file of Tesco 99Ron sites. Robocop I'll send you this by PM if you care to upload it.

Could this POI work with a MIO?

Definitely want to know where the nearest V-Power site is, so would be grand. But if it doesn't i may go for TomTom.

Excellent, good work. I currently use the Shell POI from Pocketgps world, but have never seen a POI yet on it even after driving past many Shell stations.

I look forward to actually finding a Shell station now.
