Default STI ADVICE

Hi,

Looking for a bit of advice, I am just getting ready to move back to the Subaru,
I have been looking for a little while now and have my eye on a couple.

First one is a uk sti 06 plate with the 2.5ltr engine.
Second is a jap sti 06 plate with the 2ltr twin scroll turbo.
Third is a uk 05 sti with the 2ltr engine.

I am just wondering what is the best out of the 3, what are the main differences between them and which would you have?

Any comments more than welcome.

So you would go with the jap one, is that just because it has the twin turbo,
Am I right is saying that it puts out about 320bhp? Why is it better in every way than the uk one?

Cool

Jap spec STI (JDM)

2.0 engine
Twin Scroll VF37 turbo, Superior power pick up from 2500 revs (UK car will be around 3500 revs, big difference)
Equal length exhaust manifold headers for much improved exhaust gas flow over the UK car. (The WRC car had equal length headers, so does the Spec C)
Quick steering rack (sharper steering than UK STi)
HID headlamps (UK car has normal headlamps)
Privacy glass standard (UK car can cost around £300+ to fit privacy glass)
Clutch only start (Why hasn't the UK car got this?)
DCCD (Drivers control centre differential) The UK car has this from 05 models onwards.
Red line at 8250 revs. (UK car is 7250 revs)
Red dials, much better for the eye at night. (Why hasn't the UK car got this?)
Auto intercooler spray (UK car has manual only)

After remapping a JDM car for UK fule, you're looking at around 320 bhp and 310 lbs of torque.

There's a few reasons to get a JDM car!

There again, the UK STi's are superb, i've had 4!
Hope this helps you a bit.

I would say in this order:

Second is a jap sti 06 plate with the 2ltr twin scroll turbo.
Third is a uk 05 sti with the 2ltr engine.
First one is a uk sti 06 plate with the 2.5ltr engine.

GREGGYG,

Clutch only start (Why hasn't the UK car got this?)

I take it you have to have the clutch pressed before it will start just encase you have it in gear.

That's right, on the JDM car you need to depress the clutch before the engine will start. It's a good idea to do on any car, it saves the starter motor from having to turn the gearbox with its thick, cold oil.

Sounds like you need to get yourself off down to Litchfields either way - Iain sells both JDM and Euro spec cars and knows all the differences between them. www.litimports.co.uk

ps. MY05 JDM spec (2.0 litre, twin scroll, HIDs but with the better-looking '05 front end) is the best

I'd go UK 05, but only because I prefer the look of those and you wouldn't have to pay any extra for driving an import.
