Or to put it another way
"Police vow to do thier job properly"
If all the "i"'s were dotted and the "t's" crossed, then there wouldn't be a problem. The fact that people are getting away with drink driving/speeding/dangerous driving offences is simply down to the police, no one else. The fact that defence lawyers are finding fault with the prosecution case is not is not the fault of the defence lawyer, he is simply doing his/her job far better than the CPS/Police.
As for the police saying they "will be keeping a close eye on drivers who they think have been wrongly acquitted of crimes", well, this is a scandalous comment. It is not for the police to decide who is and is not guilty, thier job is to accuse and present a case to the CPS, not decide guilt.

i coudlnt agree more.
and on a different note, people getting away with drink driving i do not condone in anyway shape or form, but again, if theye did there job correctly, this would not be happening.....
As for the possible £4000 in costs if you fight it, cant see this happening at all, everyone in this country is entiteled to a fair trial, using bullyboy tactics like that just wont be allowed, HUMAN RIGHTS anyone????
that will be dispatched along with these so called clever lawyers when they realise the whole things just going to fall apart again

Having seen the recent undercover Leicestershire Police program - they'll be way to busy buying £1 chinese takeaways and putting their feet up to bother

The answer in my eyes is very simple, reduce the amount of policing by static cameras etc and have a visible presence of police on the roads - Everyone is aware that the chance of seeing a police car on the road are so small that more people risk it.
If the police and ther CPS dont do their job correctly in presenting the case, they should be the ones getting their knuckles wrapped !

This is a nonsense; costs have to be in proportion to the fine imposed (4-to-1?). This sounds like another inept attempt by the ACPO to dictate policy but no matter how much theyd like to; they cant bully people into not defending themselves with the threat of disproportionally high prosecution costs.
