Question Number's Up!

Hi people, I've got a personal plate to go on my Scoob next week. I've been told off a mate that the Law will keep pulling me and ticketing,
and that 3 tickets and DVLA will take my plate off me and issue my car with a Q plate

Is this true?
Does anyone know?

Certainly is and "non standard" plates will attract a penalty point endorsement next year from what ive read...ANPR cameras dont like them so the law will be taking a tougher line on it..

only if you are constantly breaking the law, like driving like a tw@t everywhere, but this will probably result in the whole lot, inc car being taken.

Things like incorrect spacing and tiny plates will result in that action.

But the answer to all the above is simple, dont break the law and you wont get done, its your choice at the end of the day

It's also worth noting that you don't actually "own" a number plate, merely the right to use it. This means that the DVLA can take it back at any time (a la 3 strikes and you're out after misrepresenting letter/number on your plate).

i have a mate thats been given a ticket off the law and warned about his teeny tiny bike plate. But we all know that police officers dont always tell the truth.

im still not that certain about it to put my small plates on the car, i like my reg plate and i would like to keep it thanks very much

if the screw falls on a digit, then it must be black, any where else and it must follow the backround colour.

why you would want a full stop is beyond me anyway, puttin a black screw between two 1's to make it look like an "n" an "H" or a "U" is illegal.

Changing the look ove the lettering by any means is illegal

Out of interest, can you trim the edges off a number plate? I mean, that the letters stay the same size, but the plate is smaller?

yes, the edges are alowwed to be trimmed.

so long as there is a border of 5mm i think it is, you can have the plate in the shape of the letters by law.

But, you would be attracting attention of the BIB

Don't see what the concern is - I've had a personal plate on my scoob for 3 years and never been stopped

But along the guide of EVOLUTION, there is nothing illegal about owning and having a private plate - otherswise DVLA wouldn't do so well selling them

Yes its true, have been told by a local dealer and then a copper who took a piccy of my plate and issued me with a 7 day notice to get it changed then get the form stamped by a garage and then sent off.

Overall plate size isnt prescribed; only the font style and size; character spacing and the border. I used to have a five character cherished number and a legal registration plate could be considerably shorter than standard.

you won't get a Q plate, but they'll issue an age related plate as they will know when the car was first built/registered.

but yes, they can seize the plate
