Getting first scooby next week, advice please..
Hi all,
I have spent much time reading through these forums and I must say what a great community it is here
As the Title suggests, I am planning to buy my first ever scooby next week and would like some advise with regards to different models.
I'm not after the fastest model, but I am after reliability and security.
Am I right in believing that the newer scoobs (03 models) are more reliable and harder to steal than the older gen '00 uk scoobs and 96 wrx's?
I am so worried that someone is going to spoil my fun with my new car I just want to know what I can to make sure I have done all I can to prevent this, I know the old story of 'if someone really wants it, they will steal it' but that really isnt the answer i'm looking for.
What i'm looking for is: do the newer models have better security technology than the older ones; are they generally harder to steal? Is a tracker worth getting? Also, should I stick with a standard alarm/immoboliser or opt for a top of the range clifford? Any other advice to minimise the risk of theft would be hugely appreciated, for exaple are steering locks worth getting?
Thanks in advance guys, i'm sure you can help.

If you get a older classic 93 onwards, i would say it would be no easier to steal than any new car, as long as you bought one fitted with a cat 1 alarm/imobilizer, you could also hunt around for a tracker for it too.
That been said if someone wants your car that bad they are going to get it anyway regardless of it age.

You thinking of buying a Scooby and your only question is how safe it is from been stolen????
If there your more concern, then dont buy!
I fed up with people on this site, going on and on and on about, what if some marks it, or steals it etc etc etc....
Come please people grow up :-)
If your goin to lay in bed fearing someone breaking in a stealin it, sell it and get something else!
Thanks

AFAIK UK model MY03 onward imprezas have deadlocks in the doors which allways helps. I dont know about imports though.
My personal take on security is not to leave anything on show, dont park where you gut feel says 'dont park' and use a steering lock if your really worried.
After i got my scoob I spent a while worrying about theft etc, but if you let it bother you it will ruin your enjoyment of the car.
Buy the scoob and be sensible about security

The scumbags if good at what they do, will take it anyway. So don't worry about it, that's what insurance is for.
Don't leave anything inside. Park in areas you consider safe.
Invest in a Disklok, a decent alarm, tracker and/or blackjaxx. After that you can rest knowing you did what you could to prevent it.

check for any strange noises from a cold start
Look out for any grinding noises
Check for blue smoke out the back when you rev the accelerator
Check Coolant colour to see if any oil mixed in
Check all fluid levels
In fact id get the AA to come and do an inspection b 4 u buy

Disklock is a good deterant mate . If they see these on the steering wheel they,ll probably look for another car without one. These aren't easy to remove and buy the time they get passed your alarm and get into your vehicle they ain't gonna want to be trying to remove a disklock.

re
enjoy the site but it can make you paronoid all you seem to hear is engines blowing and lots of things breaking im sure it will put new buyers off the people i know have had very few probs my personal opinion is if you want to more power have it done properly and by a well known garage i know of bad firms just want your money and just give u too much boost and forgrt about other things thats why they go bang its not a rant but if we want new members of these great cars lets tell them bout the good things not the bad
