Default Lambda Link question

Guys,

Ive just fitted some gauges, knock link and Lambda Link to my car, its a '97 Legacy GT-B TT ( BG5B )

The last thing I have to do is connect the WHITE wire from the LambdaLink. Ive read on this forum ( doing a search ) that you's Impreza owners wire to the ECU. I cant find any information on the Legacy ECU that relates to the Impreza ECU and vise-versa.

What I was going to ask, is can I splice into the Lambda Probe wiring itself which is on the downpipe, there's two wires coming from it, a black and a white one. Is this possible guys ?

Or does anyone have any information on the wiring for the ECU on my car ?

Wiring to the probe itself will take me seconds, where as splicing to the ECU could take a while.

Thanks very much,

R7

Cheers Gaz for that,

Can you tell me why most people splice to the ECU then, is it just because its easier to do so than splicing to the Probe itself ?

Is there an difference in readings, ECU vs Probe - is one more accurate than the other or are they the same ?

One last thing lol ( sorry ) which colour wire from the probe do I tap into, the white one, or the black one ? I could find out, but it would mean me taking the intercooler back off again to determin this.

Cheers,

R7

i did it the ecu way only because i found out which wire it was at the last moment and it seemed easier i wouldnt say there is any variation in the readings from either source off the top of my head im not sure which wire it is how many wires does your lambda probe have?

I simply cannot believe that people think it does anything - except light up all pretty like.

If someone admits it is there to impress other teenagers then I will take my hat off to them .......

Adjust it until it lights the lights in the colours you want to

Random Light Generator is all it is and can be knocked up for £5!

Fools and their money ....

Pete, sorry to break this to you matey, but its not the KnockLink, its the LambdaLink that the querie is about.

I agree with you that knocklinks maybe a bit pointless, as if it lights up red the bottom end is on its way or had its day, but they are good for piece of mind, and thats what matters I guess.

Back to the original question if you could shed any light on it for me, is what colour is the feed wire on the Lambda Probe, the probe on my car has only 2 wires, a black one and a white one.

Any idea's ?

Ooops, maybe you better change your opinion back then Pete, got to be honest with you, ive installed both the KL and LL together lol

Thinking common sense mode, I think that having both running in conjunction is a good idea.

I think its a bit pointless having one without the other, for example if your getting activity from both the LambdaLink and KnockLink in syncro, you could then back off the right foot, get home, and least you'd have an idea then of what the possible cause is.

Ive had several turbocharged cars over the years that have had AFR meters installed and various other gauges, I think if your a piece of mind sort of person, there a mandatory install.

Ive never had an after market knock activity meter before though. For my own reference I think there a great idea, as ive had 3 TC cars that have det on me before - Fiat 20V Turbo a Saph and an Impreza WRX.

Just down to personal preference really I reckon.

Ok, well - I'll let you off this time as you do realise that if the CockLink shows RED then it's too late to do anything about it (and really, you should be able to tell that the engine has died without it!!)

Cheers mate !

I'll take your word for it on what happens if it shows a red light, I biffed the block pretty hard with an extention socket today, and the link was on full sensitivity and it flashed a couple of lights up, so god knows what must happen on full boost when it flashes red.

Like it indicates, if its falshing red, its showing you the red card lol.

Going back to the original question lol, Could someone please tell me which colour wire is the feed on the Lamdba Probe circuit please !

Where's Steve Jackson I bet he know's, or could find out lol.

Bloody Hell ..... it's worse than I thought

You are advised to turn the sensitivity DOWN!!

Seems to me like the only way you will get a RED light is if a Muslim has sneaked his/her way into your engine bay and decides to take you and them to meet 15 virgins!!

Strikes me as even more a waste of time and effort now!!

Pete
