Here is a video of all 4 laps so you have an Idea of how I built up to the eventual crash http://www.sidtech.co.uk/vu/JAPFEST2004_ALL_LAPS.wmv

The vid was even used to demonstrate the typical Scoob's "snap" when oversteering.

Most of the speed had scrubbed off at that piont it snapped back.. "IF" i'd have got the oposite lock straight away would have been a different outcome. I have put a couple of scoobs in a simular slide and recovered it
I have no regrets about the incident as praticing my driving skills was limited to Trackdays rather than the open road.

To sum it up: Scoobs: Not "that" good in the twisties. But your better for it knowing what it "may" do during the twisties on the open road. Which is more than can be said for people who have yet to experience the back end bite

i experienced the back end bite when i wrote off my scooby sort 2 months ago. was coming from a left bend to a right one when something came across the road in front of me. swerved right as the back end was finsihing the left still/ back end went left and front went right. i then sterred left to componsate. back snapped back and went right, front went left, span a couple of times, and collided with metal railings that were originally on passengers side, on the drivers side (ie ended up facing on coming traffic)
followed by two months off work for whiplash and a severe hatred towards anything that crosses the road in front of me.

Well Phil Keen in the Litcho Impreza almost copied Tony's efforts.
But this time it wasn't driver error.
First lap out in it too. Thru Camp, floors it changes into 4th big puff of smoke big oil slick and as he turns in for Folly (flat out right hander) the oil is on the rear tyres and he goes into the biggest spin ever.
Think he brushed the front end against the barriers but no real damage otherwise!
What a save.
Manages to drive back to the pits tho but don't think the car came out again as something underneath must have broken to lose all that oil.

As demonstated in this video of all my laps at Japfest with the Crash being the 4th lap http://www.sidtech.co.uk/vu/JAPFEST2004_ALL_LAPS.wmv

Letting go of the steering wheel would no doubt have saved the day . . . . . .But at times easier said than done - especially if one is gripped by panic . . But there is also a law of diminishing returns . .
So as the drift angle increases, the tyres adhesion to the road dimishes . . .AS I quite recently discovered, putting the car to bout a perpendicular angle relative to the cars actual velocity - will result in two things . . .
A) You will sh*t yourself . .
B) The tyres aligning torque / steering input will not make the car respond . .

There was a post recently with a video of an irish guy playing on an Airfield His video demonstrates the Frontwheel drive tecnique that should be used if there is enough room of course.
