Default Classic shape Jap Import - Removing the double din Stereo/Radio

Can someone let me know how to do this? It still has the original double din stereo. It's well and truly stuck in there and I can't see how to get it out

btw - It's a STi version 6 if that matters.

Most radios/stereos have special extraction tools, don't they? I think they're really cheap from Halfords and the like. Or am I stating the obvious and you've already tried those?

I know what you mean but there are no holes around the stereo to poke the tools through. I think the cental dash fashia needs to come off but don't know how to do this.

I've a double din Alpine in my V5. To get at it, I had to undo the whole centre console (hand brake surround, cup holder etc), take off the heater controls, unclip the plastic facia then you can get at it... a right pain in the @rse!

I'm presuming the dash of the V6 STI is similar to a UK MY99, and I had no trouble changing the stereo in mine, if you don't count the fact that I had to destroy the anodised metal sheath to get it out, once the radiocassette was removed.

My double din was held in by 4 screws behind the plastic facia...

Oooh, that's another wrinkle in me ****. I didn't know what double-din meant. That's like a 2U half-rack space.

No idea on classic - but my newage you remove the drinks tray and condom holder (remember to take out the pimms and lemonade first), 2 screws I think, then the facia just unclips from the top revealing the double din mount.

What made it worse, was that the theiving shipping agents charged you for security (that they had no influence over) and 'keyholding' (that they didnt bother with, hence the f*cker being left unlocked).

Done it after two hours! I bought a FP-006 single DIN cubby hole and a single din radio. You have to remove the complete centre console surround (inc. handbrake surround and gear lever surround) in order to remove the facia and then when you remove the original double din radio you're left with a couple of mounting plates with loads of holes.

Unfortunately none of the holes properly line up with the pioneer radio or FP-006 cubby hole. So it's a bitch to install. Plus you have to perfectly judge the distance between the edge of the radio and the facia surround so there are no unsightly gaps.

Got it done in the end and it looks good.
