Ive voted classic but it depends on what you want, if its performance then go for the classic, if its comfort then go for the newage (they are a much nicer car to be in).

Having driven both the classic is rawer by far whilst the fugly feels more robust and is a little better insulated. Fugly feels a bit heavier and a bit blunter but I thought the handling was better than the classic myself. The looks of the classic to me are just much nicer than the fugly blobeye.

GX?

What do they excell in?

Nothing. If you want pace, get the Turbo (or a Clio 182 Cup ), if you want comfort get an Audi.

I'm with Steve, its not worth getting a GX, if you're on a budget and want a Subaru go for the MY99, best 5.5K I've ever spent. ...A Scoob without a turbo? my little Rover goes quicker.

Go for the one with the best looks and weighs about 200kg less than the other one. That will be the Classic then, a truely awesome car and despite what some may say one here, it's far from a Chavs car.

i did test drive a 51 plate new age gx before i purchased my my00 wrx turbo..... was a very nice car and went well really, handled great too,but in the back of my mind i thought it could have coped with a lot more power so went the turbo route... looks didnt come in to it,as the blob and bug eye versions have grown on me,indeed so has the latest version from the initial " o my god " phase... but its the drive that counts, and out of the two you have mentioned the late classic turbo wins hands down......

Classic non-turbos are best.

IMHO.
