For some reason and I cant tell you why (someone may) inbetween the pulling this thread to bits remarks, won't flame when parked up simply by reving the engine ?? however they will when being driven underload.

I know Tiny 'in the Essex' section gets some seriously big flames and bangs when parked up, but another ESC members would not ignite stationary.

I know this does not offer much help, but possibly shows it may not be your Bf's kit.

does the cat not purify the emissions somewhat? maybe to the point of being non combustable?

Why would you want flames to come out of your exhaust anyway...........

Just for us old b'stards (39), I take it a flamer kit ignites the unburnt fuel exiting the exhaust and lights it.

I know someone who will have a field day with this thread, I can smell old man's wee already.

I often wonder about having a flame kit and being in slow moving traffic, say on a busy high street or something similar... along comes Mrs Codger (78 year old dear) who crosses the road between the queuing cars... as she gets to the back off yours the road ahead clears and you accelerate away and she gets her stockings flamed...

Now replace that with a young mum and a pram!

Am I missing something here............

Pretty sure your first problem will be the cat.

The other thing that seems to help is a dump valve.

The last thing you can do to get this working is to have the car remapped with added pops and bangs

You will be better off asking in the Essex section

From what I have been told, the car needs to be fully decatted and have a Vent To Atmosphere Dump Valve (the one that goes whooosh! ) If your boyfriend hasn't got these that may be the reason why it isn't flaming.

Get the car decatted then you should have some flames popping out the back. I know its been said above but it would more than likely be the solution to your problem. You may consider fitting a walbro fuel pump aswell this could help. I've fitted a walbro to mine to support the other mods and mine occasionaly chucks small flames out the back and thats without any flamer kit on it

they don't go off by themselves, you have a button that you press to ignite it. you really think anyone would be dumb enough to do what you suggested though, but i have to say it will come in handy for those who like to tailgate.

I haven't got one myself but from watching others with them, the flame occurs when you lift off the throttle after giving it quite a few revs, i.e. to change gear. Chances are the car will be well away from the granny or pram by the time you change gear and pop a flame.

I understand your point though and the local constabulary take a similar view, I know of at least two people who have got into trouble with the law for having a flamer fitted.

I still think it looks good when shifting along a motorway with flames popping from the exhaust though.

look even better in wjpc video at the weekend and it appears that there are some flamer kits that won't work stationary, so i think that is the problem with bf's!

Cheers SF, I was genuinely interested in how and when they flamed...

Indeed it is true, they are turn off and on-able. The other things that are required are a) moderatley high revs and b) a modicum of load on the engine. (Generally) Now if you were to be in "slow moving traffic" slow enough that pedestrians are able to walk between the cars, you are going to look a bit of a pillock, revving to 5k, dumping the clutch and then getting on the brakes 2 ft later
Young mums with prams tend to keep away from that kind of behaviour and it seems you are right........ you are missing something

Gridlock

p.s Flame kits rock, they are a toy and generally, they entertain folk. The only people it seems to wind up are other scoob owners Ironic
