Is my car the only one that has a loud blowing noise coming from the drivers side door without any actual noticeable draft coming in to the car, or is this a common fault?

Does anyone know how to fix it as I can't find the source of the noise and its getting on my wick, especially when passengers start asking, "where's that blowing noise coming from" and then proceed to slag Subaru build quality. Grrrr. Any help greatly appreciated.

Cheers

Martin.

No... mine does it too. I'd love to find the fix if anyone knows.

What do you classify as motorway speed? My scooby is silent up to around 110 (ignoring the centre consoles persistent creaking), however above 130 things get a bit deafening.

Have you tried those strange pieces of plastic that get attached along the pillar infront of the window to deflect the wind? they might help

This can be quite a common problem.

Try opening the door, closing the window fully, and then closing the door. Sometimes if the adjustment isn't perfect, then the resistance of the rubber seals is enough to convince the motor that the window is fully up, when there is still a mm or two to go.

The other option is to take it to a Subaru dealer and get them to adjust the window so it closes perfectly under warranty.

Ours does this - the dealer took it in to sort out, but it still does it!! Going back very soon to have a service, window included.

I think you will find the noise coming from the door mirror area.
The seal on my car has been replaced with no luck.
If you push the rubber from the inside the noise stops.

The problem will normally only occur if you have had the window open and then closed it without opening/shutting the door. Closing the window doesn't create as good a seal as closing the door.
Avoid having the window open if you're going to drive at 60+ later!!

Another problem with the impreza is the motors used for the electric windows are pathetic. My car is new but it takes absolutely ages for the window to go from fully down to the closed position. And even when it does close as it gets to the last 4 or 5 inches the windows speed seems to halve so I am not sure a lot of the time if there is a proper seal.I often have to pull the button up again when the window is closed just to give it a little pressure to make sure it is tight.Hopefully the new model has turbo charged electric window motors to cure this fault which I know plagues many an Impreza.

Try pushing and pulling the seal by the mirror from inside and eventually you'll stop it.

we have the same problem, but it does'nt
sound half as bad as what you are describing.
we have an import and are trying to get the
wind deflectors for around the top of the
frames. we've seen other imports with them
so can anybody with the deflectors let us know if they work or not?

I cured this by smearing vaseline on the seal. This causes it to slip over the glass instead of sticking and becoming distorted with it. Of course the glass gets some vaseline on it but with time the seal settles and you dont need to lube it anymore.

I own a Citroen DS MY67, same windowdesign, same noise... bit more though. It's more quiet when it's not that windy outside. Drive on nice days only...
