Geom, tracking & balancing....
Has anyone used a kwikfit type garage for the above? are they any good or should I use a 'specialist'? its just that my WR1 doesnt seem to handle as well as it used to, and as its been nearly 3 years since I bought it I guess it will need checking???

Liam,
technoically any outfit with 4 wheel alignment facility should be able to do this for you however a lot of them do not understand what or why they are making the adjustment and stick to the manufacturers guidelines which often isn't the best handling set-up.
Where are you based? There's a few I'd trust; TSL up north, PowerStation out west, Micheldever down south and Mocom Racing serving the south-east.

in the Impreza world.
£60+vat to set up the jig etc and check the settings, if any further work is
required it's charged at £50 an hour.
Your car will be transformed !!!

I used to have the Prodrive settings applied by a well respected independent, but had uneven tyre wear and the handling wasn't astounding. I had the following settings done by a local guy with over 40 years experience of setting up not only road cars, but race cars including Williams F1. Even on track (Blyton, very abrasive to NSF) I now have even wear and the turn-in and cornering stability is awesome. Print this out and show it to anyone who you believe is competent, if they can understand it then I'd let them have a go. If their eyes glaze over then walk away. I believe the circled figures are the important ones...

Are the settings that are circled the ones that should be dialed in or are these where the adjustments were made?
I'm interested in the fact that you found these to be the best for turn in and
stability.

IIRC he said the circled figures were the end result. His number is on the sheet and I'm sure he'll answer any query. When I had it done I took the Prodrive figures copied from here, and cross referenced to as many posts as possible to ensure I got them right. He laughed at them, and after a brief discussion which saw my eyes glaze over with talk of minutes, degrees, camber, castor, toe etc etc we decided to just let him do what he thought was best with his experience, given that I wanted a car that turned in well and was stable in corners, and I wasn't too bothered about comfort. He even compensated for my weight and the average camber on UK roads, and informed me that the settings would remove some of the natural recentring of the front wheels.

I got mine done at TSL, but the guy who did it has now set up on his own in melton mowbry, a place called carnetix. About to get mine done again, after an incident involving a cat and a fecking deep pothole. It is well worth doing, I had mine set up as a compromise halfway between the pridrive motorway and b road settings.
Doesn`t seem so willing to sling the back end out, but still gives goo cornering and handling.
