Iv'e used some of the following and found them good.
www.qed-uk.com
www.freenet.estreet.co.uk
www.empiredirect.co.uk
webelectricals.co.uk
I recently bought a new W/S T.V , DVD and video.
The price difference was £620 cheaper that comet.
Chip.
As for Curries , Comet, Powerhouse etc thgeir web prices are like their store prices. Thet just rely on the public thinking that they are the cheapest that you can buy anything . Comes down to good marketing. Trouble is most people still believe in all the hype and go and shop there.

For DVD players I can highly recommend: www.techtronics.com
Their multi-region mods are brilliant if you want to play US discs
As for what to buy, buy yourself a copy of Home Cinema Choice and have a look through

Try House of Fraiser. Bro found they had a Panny 28" DK2 Pro Logic set for under £500, last years model, but who cares! They could also get the 32" cheaper aswell. Great set.

Nigel ,
I've just done the very thing and spent ages shopping about on the Internet. I ended up going for a Hitachi 32 " pro-logic for < £600
Eltax Stargate DD 5.1 speakers with sub(£110) and a Kenwood 5050 receiver/amp (£150ish). I already had a PS2 and use that as my DVD. I got it all from QED. They are basically box shifters , their customer service stinks and they only deliver on Monday and Wednesday but , hey , it was a good deal.
I live in a semi so i took the opportunity to try it out on Saving Private Ryan while the neighbours were out. I thought there was a Panzer coming down the street!!
Some of the wiring is a pain in the **** , and you need other cables etc , but now it's all in place i'm dead chuffed with it.
