It stands for very little, although people frequently make something up and represent it as an answer..... A 'Knocklink' is a small box with indicaor lights which attaches to a knock sensor on your engine. UK cars wouldnt need one but many imported JDM cars benefit due to their inability to deal with the grades of fuel available here (and because the ECU has very very limited ability to retard the ignition if it detects detonation; when it does react that is; Ive seen octogenarian drivers with quicker reflexes than an early WRX's ECU.....).

Is it too late anyway if the lights flash? (i.e. by the time your lights flash, the damage has been done) Wouldn't it be far better to upgrade the ECU and not worry about det, far safer too?

I hear many people 'adjust' the knocklink so that it doesn't flash which defies the point surely?

Buy a standard car and build it to your spec. Best way to go.

It's 'X' as in 'no' i.e. - World Rally? No, it's an f'ing road car...

Well RS stands for Rally Sport.

BMX, Bicycle Motor X cross

I think its World Rally Cross too. a cross between rally and road ie homologation.

Just a thought.

The best guess is thay it stands for World Rally International (X used in place of the final letter; as in LAX for example); you have to consider that it was written by the Japanese who write total and abslolute bollocks when they turn to English. Look at the acronyms on the side of the first sports bike that you see.....

With regard to a Knocklink, its better to know and prevent further reds thatll destroy your engine but of course; avoiding pre-ignition in the first place would be preferable.
