Default Switchable remap?

Are there switchable remaps available for MY05 WRX's?

A search doesn't reveal much, I'm interested to know if it's possible to have 95RON and 98 RON maps.

Reason for asking 98 RON isn't widely available everywhere.

If the remap is done properly and is tested on both fuels it should be able to cope with switching between the two when necessary.

Thanks, the question is though, does such a product exist and what's it called/who supplies it?

Go easy with the right foot when running on 95RON and stick Octain Boost in when you plan to floor it.

The car isn't mine, I bought it for my father and he's having problems finding 98 RON near to him. My thoughts were remap for 98 RON and power and 95 RON map for him to use the rest of the time.

Somehow I can't see him driving round with a bootfull of octane booster.

I think he means, is it possible to have 2 maps on the 05WRX ecu and then switch by some means.

I asked PAT about this when he re-mapped mine but he said he hadn't heard of it. However, I remember reading about it (cant find the thread now). It was something like pressing rear screen heater switch whilst foot flat on accelerator to switch maps.

No idea whether I dreamt this up though (though it sounds good )

You can have a high boost/low boost switchable map. With low boost as low as you like; mine's at 0.6 bar, lower than standard.

I think ecutek do map switching for some models, the switch is done by pressing the clutch and switching the heated window on or something like that. You would need to contact ecutek or an ecutek dealer for details and to see if it is available for your model.

Thanks Ken.
I was thinking of something more sophisticated than just boost control, the ECUTEK might do the trick.

Yes you can have a switchable map, the ECUTEK software does allow this, I have a switchable map on my JDM STi.

As mentioned earlier you switch the map by pressing the accelerator all the way to the floor then pressing the rear heated window switch.

Bob Rawle mapped mine.

Rabid

There are only a limited number of base maps that can have map switch in them using EcuTeK software and 05My WRx isn't one of them.

I couldn't possibly comment on which performance packages are tested on various different fuels and will cope with 95RON

I've got twin boost maps on my MY02 STI Type UK. 311bhp low boost, and 409bhp high boost

Initially the ECUTEK software could only do this on the '02 (AFIAK).

But on the ECUTEK forums, they are working on the twin boost maps for the newer cars.

To activate the map, you just do 100& throttle postition and press the demist switch, easy.

I must say though, I don't use the low boost mode much.........

The demist switch map change trick only worked on the pre my03 cars, the 03 onward have variable valve control and so cannot run 2 maps for what ever reason.

What a load of ...

EcuTek have issued certain rom files to their dealers that support "user tune".

There are no switchable maps (yet), just the ability to apply offsets to existing maps, the demist switch option has limited effect, in order to take full advantage then you either need Deltadash (laptop plugged in) or the EcuTek Data display which is the best route, then you can adust in overall trim terms several parameters including wastegate duty, fueling, ignition, boost targets etc. (actualy there are two boost target maps)

Its the choice of the mapper if he allows that or not, I personally make the judgement based on the owners technical appreciation of the car and its function, the ignorant could kill an engine with no bother.

Mike you are implying something that is not possible, a car cannot perform happily on 95 ron if mapped to use 97 ron, yes it can pull ign etc BUT thats all and if you get certain circumstances (which I am not publicising) then it won't react.

Just to keep a balance on things

cheers

bob

It is possible to have 2 maps on a >03 car. Mine's 04 and has both. It's not a mapping for 95 & 97 ron, but as i stated before, high/low boost. It also has launch control dialled in!!!

Bob

I didn't say it would run optimally on 95RON, but it will run safely and still perform well. As a long term test we ran one of our cars for 22,000 miles and it saw Optimax for about 5% of that mileage, the rest of the time was on 95RON. Not sure anyone else would bother...

We make use of several under-utilised features in the ECU to help protect the engine against the efects of either low octane fuel or high temperatures and these aren't all related to ignition, but I guess you knew that already
