Ok, Ali, why was Pferdestärke introduced, when BHP is so well established?

The Krauts and the Nips use it, but it's not a recognised international unit. Great. This smacks of people using it to appear "hip", like using the word "gifted" instead of "gave".
Ooh, me pods.

Ford use it too, as I remember my Escort having a "130ps" sticker placed proudly on the air intake, well, until I jetwashed it off
And don't forget the French with their CVs and yellow headlamps
