what uk spec scooby could i get for circa 5k, and tuning ?
been looking at type ra's, wrx sti's, all of which are imports
been reading/talking to a few people and I'm a bit concerned about the fuel thing, maybe it's fine to do but I'm not too keen on having top ut octane booster in every time i fill up with petrol
wondering what age/spec of uk scooby i could get for about 4-5k, I understand there are no STi's for the uk in the classic shape, which is what i'd be looking at for the money I'm willing to spend
but are there any other uprated versions to look out for (in my price range)
possibly better to get a uk model to start with and tune it ?
but..also thinking if I'm going to tune it at all then may as well get the jap import, and get the remap for lower octane fuel

i picked up a 97 uk turbo with the ppp kit (engine/ wheels/ suspension), short shift box, dump valve, cold air induction kit, full history. very happy with it indeed, payed 5.7k been told it runs 260bhp but prob more like 240-250 will find out at the next rolling road day. good ones can be found but it took me a long time find one just dont rush out and buy it in haste could buy alot of problems

About 215bhp on paper. Seems to push more on the rollers, as do the older 208bhp one. But then it could be every tuner's rollers are grossly inaccurate (would be funny if it was ).
If was a Uk car your looking for, I'd plump for anything MY97 onwards with the facelift and interior upgrade (i.e no horrible tweed seats ).

PPP = sti but prodrive ?
seen PPP mentioned loads but never looked in to it , thought it was just for newer models
don't wanna rush and bu one like you say, I'm doing as much research as poss just now, which can only be a good thing, whenever I think I've made my mind up on what I want I discover more pros/cons

PPP=Prodrive Performance Pack, available from about 1995 onwards, gave an increase in BHP and Torque and better drivability.
Earlier cars had approx 240bhp, later uk turbos pushed 250bhp (all on super unleaded).
The PPP is also available for the new age STi.
