Default bubbling noise - any ideas ??

Hi All,

When I start the car up, STi (MY53), I can hear a bubbling / gurgling / water flowing sort of noise from inside. It gets louder / faster as I rev the car. Sounds like it's behind the centre console.

Is it the air con (which I don't use often), or is it the cooling system water ??

Is it a common thing ?? Are there air bubbles in the water system ??

It's p*ssing me off.

Look forward to your replies.

Cheers,
Graeme.

Had the same problem, it's the pipes for the heater (behind the glove box I think) basically the system needs bleeding.

Hope that helps

Will have a go at bleeding the system.

Should I have the engine on when bleeding the system, or not ??

Do you bleed it when hot or cold ??

Havent had to bleed the heater matrix on my Subaru but I've had to do it on other cars.

To bleed the system make sure your coolant level is filled to max level.

If you loosen the outflow hose on your heater matrix then start the car, pull off the hose until water flows out then reconnect the hose and tighten the clip & refill the coolant system you should illiminate the air from the system.

The heater matrix is behind the dash thou isnt it?

Fill the system to the max. Take the top of the tank shown on the picture, squeeze the bottom rad hose until the air stops bubbeling from the tank, keep the coolant topped up whist you doing this.

Look at the pictures (not the best) but you get the idea.

Easier doing this with 2 people i found, one to squeeze the rad pipe and the other pouring in the coolant. Depending on when the last change was done, i would be tempted to drop the old stuff and replace it with new. Mobo;e advanced coolant for alluminium engines is £14.99 from halfords.

Had exactly this problem with mine after its 3year service, all fluids changed by dealer but a air lock in the heater matrix.

I am told (although could be a load of bull) that this is common due to the heater matrix being slightly higher than the rad, therefore easy to get an airlock on refil.

Took the dealer 2 more attempts to get this fixed but its fine now.

You could always try ringing a local dealer and asking them for their advice on the best/easiest way to do this yourself.
