Default Hmm, do i stick with searching for a uk turbo.....

or admit defeat and get an import ?

i want a white scoob, only white, all th euk one si find have no history, dodgy history or panel damage or are not to my liking so wil lneed to spend about £500 to get it to my liking, already making the total price close £5k

so, do i go import, the only reason i dont want to is the fuel issue, but am starting to think sod it if i get a good one then most dont have any receipts or service stuff as its all in japenese etc, so im fubard both ways....

what to do.......

Its like, i was totally keen on this one, uk turbo, 49k etc, but as has ben pointed out, look at the coach line of the door to wing.......

also the bumper is quite damaged.....

he is on hols now, but maybe an accident, also th efront doesnt seem to line up, see right side of bonnet to lite....

and why is bonnet more creamier than the rest of the white bits ??

Maybe ive grown too paranoid ??
havent seen it for real yet, he is 4 hrs away afterall....

Look for another one, the picture looks of a crashed car.

IMHO, you will find a straight one, just wait.

so its not just me being paranoid then, starting to think im being too fussy....

i turned down a white uk turbo due to a recon engine/box as i was told it was standard engine, then mate rang up and was told this, when i rangback and asked, he said no recon engine, all original, so gave it wide birth, now this one......

plus many others with dodgy goings on....

i've owned a MY99 UK Impreza and a MY95 STI RA and i'd say go for the import, my RA was a totally different car to my UK one in every way, if i was looking to buy another Impreza it would definitely be an import.

Are you looking for a wagon or saloon?

Si.

My96 uk turbo - 132000 miles on original engine, turbo and gearbox
Full service history - main dealer and private ex-subaru mechanic
Scoobyecu mapped by scott T running about 1.2 bar
4-pots with EBC grooved dimpled discs and subaru pads
braided hoses
H&S decat downpipe, TSL decat centre, afterburner vortex ( with custom H&S bung )
HKS green panel filter
A-pillar boost gauge
Raceline white 17" 5-spoke alloys in excellent condition with T1S's
P1 replica front splitter
Smoked side and front indicators
Sti6 seats, front and rear in superb condition, very rare.
Prodrive option carbon dash kit from new, also have the prodrive recaro seats that were optional extra, same as mcrae seats but jet black.
Kenwood cd/tape player with changer in boot.
Spacesaver wheel never used

I bought the car in March 2003 with 82k on clock, I'm the 3rd owner although log book says 4 due to dealer owning for 4 days before I bought it. In that time I've replaced the header tank, radiator and have recently had all engine seals and gakets, including head gasket and cambelt changed due to a coolant leak, which is now obviously sorted. Also changed OSF cv boot and wheel bearing. After buying her I wrote to both previous owners asking a few questions about the history, both telephoned me to discuss, both confirmed that the car was genuine. The car is HPI clear and my finance completed in March of this year. I will not discuss security on here but will stress that she has ample, if there is such a thing......!

I've had the car MOT'd for the last 3 years without ANY work needing to be done which can be verified.

Car has aircon, fitted when new and it works perfectly.

Unlike many people on here I was lucky as this was the only scoob that I looked at and it was bog-standard when I bought her. She's not been on a track but has been driven like she was supposed to but never abused, I am an enthusiast of the marque and I'm sure many on here, especially in the midlands section, will verify the condition of the car. Cosmetically she's in great order and is washed probably 3-4 PER WEEK..........sad I know but you'll never see her dirty, she's also waxed monthly, has regular oil-changes and all liquids, tyres, lights etc etc checked at least once a week.

Has she had any paint-work, hell yes, you can't drive a 10 year old scoob without suffering stone-chips or carpark dings, so I had the front-end profesionally resprayed in 230 white, this included spiltter, bonnet, bumper, scoop and mirrors, I also have the receipt and work-sheet available as confirmation.

I'm not looking to sell this car just yet but will be replacing with another scoob soon, however everything has a price and IF I was offered the right money at the right time she would go to a good home. I suppose you're wondering why I've bothered to type all this if I'm not looking to sell, well, my point is that you will find the right motor and it may be the 1st or the 30th that you look at, but you will, with a little luck and patience have a brill car that doesn't cost an arm and a leg to run and is bloody good fun aswell as being very reliable to boot.

Oh yeah, I almost forgot, I've just returned from a 1300 mile round trip to France and SHE DID return 30MPG fully laden and with a family of 4,admittedly driving like Ms.Daisy with the exhaust bung in....

Keep looking, you'll find one and in the best colour too.

BTW, I'm 35 with full no claims and only pay £403 p/a fullycomp although I didn't think the difference was too much probably due to the age of the car.

Best of luck.

Si.

looking for a saloon, i have just found out you can map an import for super, 97 RON, if this is true then i would do this,i dont want mad bhp figures etc, but DO want to be able to fill up at any petrol station hence want super, plus i hate paying more than 99.9p a litre for fuel !!!!!!

I think I've said in your other posts, if you can, you might as well go for an import. They're better spec, and usually cheaper to buy.

The downsides - insurance is higher (slightly), getting it mapped for UK fuel/speedo conversion/delimiter/getting underseal.

The arguement about it being harder to sell on now is flawed, due to it being difficult to sell ANY car at the moment. The Scooby is a PRIME example
The General Public have wised up to Imports, and usually know what they're looking out for, so cheaper imports are seen as a bargain - as long as they're checked out.

However, you're doing the right thing - tread cautiously: there's loads of nails out there, and it IS a buyer's market. Patience, and the right one will come along. In the meantime, keep putting the hard-earned away, and you'll soon find yourself in a position to go for a newer example.

Everyone's a winner

Best of luck though.

Get an import my friend.
I did and I'm very pleased with it.

It really is'nt that hard to find a good clean import.

I must've looked at 7 or 8 white imports before getting my white RA.

As for the the panels out of alignment(Scooby in the pix), I'd bet the wing was replaced and was a cheaper copy of the original Subaru item.

Best of luck with your search
