Default Age, car, job, insurance...

I'm thinking of getting a WRX, my wife to be thinks only people going through a mid-life get a Scooby (she's trying to make me get a CTR I think). What is the average driver like? Also, how much do you pay insurance?

Cheers

I'll start....

I'm 27, looking at a WRX, a teacher, and the insurance is going to be about £900.

I'm 22 and got the scoob when I turned 21, so not a midlife crisis car.
Was just short of £3k to insure last year and will be just short of £2k at the end of next month for the renewal.....worth every penny.

I have a boring job in IT

I've always wanted a scoob since I was kid, so it's worth it to me.....plus the fact that I have no life and don't spend my money on much else

39yrs young. Firefighter. insurance £700 f.c. MY53 STi PPP.

I got my car for a couple of reasons:

Mid life crisis - Definately. I didn't know it at the time as I've always had fast cars, but this one is the ultimate m.l.c. car. Last one, I promise, next one will be a Passat diesel (life will be over !! pass the slippers please).

It pisses the wife off - She hates me spending money on a car. She hates the fact I love my car infinately more than her. Payback (I think most of the married guys / girls will understand).

Cheers,
Graeme.

Mate . . Forget what the averaghe driver is like, but by the looks of it, it seems 900 squid is about right for you situation position . . .I tried about 7 or 8 insurance companies before I got insured . . Point is . .It is my impression, that you can get insured for less money, but expect to pay a fat excess . . .The insurance companies . IMHO, care abt it its Tracker protected, garaged overnight . .Where you live, and on rare occasions , if it has bandit glass!

Enjoy!

Quite a varied bunch then you lot but with one thing in common, the Mrs doesn't approve of the Scooby! Mine (well she will be in 12 weeks) would prefer me to get a BMW, but i'm slowly winning her over

Good to see how quotes vary. Cheers guys.

What you're missing is moreso the location of everybody. Not just based on job/age

When I had my 1st Scoob I was 27 (IIRC!). Paid about £750 (for an MY95 UK wagon) in Great Bridge, Tipton/W.Mids. I was a part-time lecturer.

Made on hell of a difference when I moved to the countryside (Herefordshire). The insurance (even when I changed to a 2nd Scoob - MY99 Classic Saloon with mods) dropped by about £350.....

Now I've got my S4 Avant, it crept up slightly, but that's because I didn't want to lose my NCB with the current company, and they don't like Audis. Having phoned round, it's gonna come down again

Oh, I'm now 32.

Dan

edited to add, the wife's always liked the car, but never really "got" what it was all about....until I coached her one day on how to drive it. Then she had the "Scooby Grin"
