2.0 GX ??? To be honest I wouldn't bother.
Why not get a hot hatch until you can afford a WRX or even a STI. A GX is going to be slower than paint drying.
I can strongly recommend a 106GTI. Best handling car I've ever driven. Most Fun too. What you lose out on in the straight, you more than make up for in the corners.

As has been said wait for a wrx or a sti really.
I can heartily recommend the 306 gti-6 aka the Pug :-) superb cars and you should get insured quite reasonably on one, try and get the rally edition aswell, they are a bit lighter so bit more performance.
At 19 you realistically have no chance of a wrx or sti right now, unless of course you want to pay more than car for the insurance!

Depends on the money you have available both to buy and to run. There are a lot of hot hatches around but insurance for a 19yr old won't be cheap. Also french cars are unlikely to be as reliable as jap cars. The 2.0 GX does at least give you a feel for the interior of the scoob and you get the safety of the AWD but I agree with Stilover you won't really get the feeling of driving a WRX or STi.
My choices? of the hot hatch brigade I would go for the Skoda Fabia VRS - good size, good performance, excellent economy, brilliant residuals and can be 'chipped' relatively cheaply for more performance.
I wouldn't rule out the 2.0GX - well built, good size, reasonable economy, safety of AWD.
In the end "you pays your money..........."

my parents GLX is superb - all wheel drive, comfortable and suprisingly nippy. Come on guys dont be slating them down just because you have the WRX's - I have an STI prodrive and yeah its a world apart but my dad gives his GLX just as much round the twisty stuff and in the wet and they both love it. Oh and most of my drives would be just as fast in the GLX as they are in the STI. As for other recomendations, I sold my 206gti a while back and that was a fun car but yes slower than the 106 but I had climate control and room to carry people and stuff.

hmmm...as much as i like the 106 id prefer to stay jap. toyota starlet gt turbo is luring me, what about the impreza sport? ive got my heart set on an impreza but i suppose i have to be realistic about things!!

Nothing wrong with a Sport. Ok you know the performance drop..but your pocket will like it better. (specially at 19)
Plus loads of parts are the same as turbos, and will handle as good as a turbo, with very little cost.
Talk to people on here :-

The specs below the WRX are OK insurance-wise, but you wont get much performance from them. I'd hold off until you can get the scooby you probably want.
I don't know what budget you have, but like the others said, why not buy a hot-hatch for a while, don't blow your budget modding it, get a couple of years NCB then get the scoob of your dreams.
a Fabia vRS will give you plenty of fun, insurance friendly and average 50mpg.

I pay £300, two drivers, 3pts, fully comp, prot NCB.
That compares to a STi with mods same as above £650.
Actually, that sounds about right then if the fabia is 9 and the scoob 20.
Thoroughly recommend a vRS, not being biased or anything

My first scoob at 19 was an impreza sport, still at the top of my list of the best cars I've ever had, joint top with my wrx
A mate of mine has a sport and to be honest in real world driving on the road there is nothing in it, its a great looking car and they ain't slow in my opinion.
And as said before you get the AWD and the other core bits, you will get the bug for a wrx in time!!!!!!!!!!!
