Angry GOT MY WHEELS POWDER COATED - TOO DARK?

So, got my wheels back tonight (2 of them, will get the other 2 done next week.) Chuffed to bits and showed the wife "Not as nice as they used to be - too dark!!!"

Surely she is wrong!!!

JUst back from the powder coaters:

With tyres on:

Also, I cannot get the standard lock nut key in as it is too tight - any suggestions!!!

had mine powdercoated gold and a lot of guys have said they are a bit dark.... might be just the process that leaves them that way over the standard colour dunno..... they look good in isolation though, try them on the car to see though

Is that 90gm of alloy weights on that rim!?! Colour looks ok to me, if it is different will make it unique

Depends what your comparing them too. They are PFF7s copies, not genuine ones (i can't see prodrive cast into the rim).... these copies always look far too bright for me. The WRC wheels tend to have gone a little darker from how they used to be and look far better too. So a touch darker would look good IMHO, like this:

£28 a wheel cash - P&J Powder Coating, Thornliebank, Glasgow, 0141 620 1652

One was slightly kerbed but my main issue was the gold was coming off the old ones. I bought the car second hand (MY04) and the previous owner got the alloys second hand.

So, mixed opinions then - mmmmmmmm. I do agree they are on the dark side.

So, How am I going to get these lock nuts on then?

The side on photos is the best as it shows the front wheels (done) and the rear ones (needing done.)

How did you rate the quality of the finish and was it £28 with the tyres fitted/balanced? I'm needing some wheels done in the Glasgow area soon.

I don't think there is much in it, but yes they do seem a touch darker. Personally I prefer the slightly darker shade.

P&J charged £28 cash to do each wheel. Remember they are a powder coating business and do all sorts of stuff including garden furniture!!!

I had to arrange for the removal and re-fitting of the tyre myself. I went to Hi-Q Machonnchies round the corner who charged £12.50 per wheel to take off and then re-fit which included a valve and balance.

Regarding quality, I am well chuffed with mine and had used P&J years ago. Regarding alternative companies, please see attached thread. Please note that the last post is a bad one for P&J. My own experience was the laquer did come off mine but that is probably because I kerbed one of my wheels which let the water in and the rest is history.

Go to their workshop and se some of their stuff:

P & J Powder Coating
17, Evanton Place, Thornliebank, Glasgow, Lanarkshire G46 8JE
Tel: 0141 620 1652 Classification: Powder Coating

Options: Map/Directions to P & J Powder Coating (4) Send P & J Powder Coating's (4) details to mobile Save P & J Powder Coating (4) to address book

Alternatively, send me a PM and you can see mine in the flesh if you want.

Cheers John, you have made me feel much better - I have been sweating all weekend about it!!! The origionals do make the car stand out abit more but they did look a little cheap!!!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

New ones definately look better, the original gold is way too bright. The new finish looks a closer match to genuine gold PFF7s than the copies IMHO
