Unhappy

I've got a 95 wrx and it failed on the c.o, i've done a search and there is alot of talk on the lambda sensor, could this be the trouble .
Before i went for the test i give a good trashing but the testing station let it idle for a good 3-7 mins before doing the test, would this effect the results.
The emissions are as follows :

fast idle test
c o 1.09 %
h c 87 ppm
lambda 0.980

second fast idle test
c o 0.67 % limit 0.30
h c 57 ppm
lambda 0.980 between 0.970 - 1.030

natural idle
c o 0.48 % limit 0.50 %

thanks for any help
nick.

is it a jap import if so then they have to test your vehicle under the old emmisions figures for non cat cars so as long as the co is under 3.5% and under 1200 hc it should be fine if it is a uk car then poss lambda or temp senosor which controls ecu

Mail me at work with the exact details of your car and I will check the MOT regs on Monday to see that they are applying the correct rules.

Perhaps the 95WRX had a Catalytic coverter in the downpipe like other Scoobies. It may have worn out or been replaced with a straight through downpipe?

Just a guess

As already said if its an import it should not show on the uk emession tester therefore would have to be tested under default as in under 3.5%

I had the same problem with my '94 WRX earlier this year. MoT failed on too high CO emissions. I took the car for a thrash and had it retested with the same results. The mechanic then cleaned the lambda sensor and retested, and the CO emissions had been reduced by a factor of 100, so it passed easily. I also noticed improved fuel consumption afterwards too. Try getting the lambda sensor cleaned.

Nick

My 95WRX failed on emissions a couple of weeks ago.

To start with the MOT rules changed in Aug 2001 and it your car is an import or not it has to pass a default CAT test with quite strict limits (similar to the normal CAT test limits) IF your car is produced in Sept 1995 and on - ie N plate as mine is.

I took mine to Tyres Northampton who were great. Elvis found out it was my centre section CAT that was fooked. If you knock it you can hear stuff rattling as a result of the collapsed honeycomb structure. Not sure if Elvis considered the Lambda sensor or not. Anyhow, I borrowed a friends centre CAT from a UK car and it went through with no troubles. Then I got a Scorpion decat centre fitted.

Need to pick up a cheap CAT from somewhere or borrow my friend's each MOT now.

Good luck

Martin , i reackon it could be the lambda as well , because it only just creeps within the aloud level's .
When the mechanic cleaned your's what did he clean it with, and was it an easy job to do if i was to appemted this myself.
Just to make sure is the lambda onto of the exhaust system near the downpipe cat with a metal cable going to it.
thanks , nick.
