Restoring that new car smell
Does anyone know how to restore the smell you get when you collect a new car? 4 years of having Bess in the car has produced a rather musky odour

Vaguely carcinogenic as well incidentally, although I think that lemons and screwdrivers are on the same list.

Making Yur Scoob Smell Like New
Hello,
I have 2 big Beasts myself who pong (Bullmastifs) in a Forester. Have found that, give the inside a good vacuum, includding seats, use an unused paintbrush to dust al the air intake vents.
Spray a mixture of 50/50 water white Vinegar into the moor overnight. including airvents
In the morning all the smells have gone for a long time, then, spray Autogleam Airfreshner into the vents and stuff, smells like a new car for at least a month.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards
Alan MAC

I don't really have an issue with a pongy motor now to be honest after doing most of what you recommend (icluding using the Autoglym air freshener) all I want ot do is make my car smell like I just collected it. It seems to me that smell is just not reproducable. Looks like I will have to buy a new car to get it

My scoob blew a piston & until I get it repaired I needed a cheap runabout to keep me on the road . Last week I bought a pug 309d in fairly good nick with 6 months tax & MOT for £360 ! Unfortunately the previous owner used the car to transport his 2 rottweilers so the interior was full of dog hairs & was stinking .
I washed all the interior plastics with elite upholstry cleaner & I gave the fabrics a thorough vacuuming . The seats were fairly clean after but the smell was still there . Then I remembered a tip I got from a car valeter - febreeze ! I bought a bottle from the supermarket , sprayed all the interior fabrics & left the car open all day to let the stuff evaporate , taking the smell with it . The difference is remarkable with a nice fresh smell instead of the doggie smell .

Keep the ideas coming guys, I'm sure someone will come with the method to bring back that new car smell. I'll try the Febreeze method tomorrow and hang a couple of dozen magic trees (new car smell ones) and see what happens.

Making Yur Scoob Smell Like New
Cracked IT!!!
A mate of mine is really into having a spotless Showroom Condition Car at all times.
Nice guy but a bit boring really.
Anyway was down the Pub last night ad mentioned ur quest aaaandddd he swears by an American Company <www.carcareinternational.com> and, in Air Freshners look up "NEW CAR SCENT."
He swears by it and to be fair, his car is always a pleasure to be in.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards

LOL if you don't put smelly hounds/GFs in your car, the new smell will endure longer.
My MY99 had only 15k when I got it (nearly two years ago) and, not surprisingly, smelt pretty much new! It's now about 27k and you can still smell the "new car fragrance" esp if it's been a hot day.
I observe the following precautions:
1) No animals
2) No grubby mates
3) No smoking
4) No eating/drinking
5) Regularly dust and dont use harsh chemicals to clean. Usually a damp cloth sufices. Although I'm going to give Autoglym a go for the trim, it seems to be highly though of.
Admitedly, my car only gets light use, but even so, I think prevention is much better than cure and the above can be practiced by most people I'd imagine!
