Default Realistic prices of classics?

Hi. I've recently sold my immaculate, unmodified, less than 3 year old, 27,000 mile Blob eye WRX for my realistic asking price of £10,500. Now that I'm looking to replace it I have been scouring the forums, Pistonheads etc.

What I don't understand is the multitude of classic owners who seem to think their good condition, 5-7 year old, up to 90,000 mile UK Turbo's/WRX's can be worth from £7,000 to £8,000? Are you crazy? £8,000 and I would expect a low mileage immaculate 02 bugeye with less than 35,000 miles. Out of interest has ANYONE sold their classic for one of these crazy inflated prices I see advertised everywhere?

Hi Crow. Take a look in the For Sale section, Autotrader and Pistonheads. Plenty of year 2000, 40,000 milers at 8G's! There's even one in there that's modded and 83,000 miles at 8 G's!!!!!!!!!!!!!! These people have to come to terms with the word - depreciation. And a lot of people complain about Impreza depreciation. I don't think it's any worse than loads of other cars e.g. a Mercedes.

I'd be confident about getting 8k for mine. Not that I have any plans to sell!!

But not many MY99s have 24,000 miles!!

Hi NS. No disrespect but the car is 7 years old! No matter how many miles it's done, other things deteriorate purely with age. I went to see a T reg with 39,000 on it the other day. It was immaculate, but worth 7.5 he was asking? Absolutely no way.

Let's put things into perspective. My old 1998 S reg Merc C240 with 45,000 and immaculate condition would struggle to get £5,000 today. When it was new it cost at least £7,000 more than an Impreza.

I have a 95' Jap Import WRX unmodified engine with only 40k mileage... I am confident it should sell for around £5k because of it few exclusive features and how clean the car is...

A larger than normal muffler on the exhaust, Sti Type V wing, tinted windows, silver door sills, and a few other extras... I have not done anything to the car apart from added the wing, tints, stereo and alarm.

I bought it for £7900 just over 4 years ago... so I don't mind the depreciation even if it sold for £5k. I think £3.5 - £4.5k is quite low for a really good condition WRX... but everyone is entitled to their opinion and I guess it may depend on the colour and location...

I have no illusions about how little my mint 98 wagon is worth with 95,000 miles on it - £3,500 tops, I reckon

Any insurers here willing to tell me how much i'd get for it if it were written off?

Dealer price is around £7.3 for a MY00 with 50k on the guides...

I paid £6900 for a mint un tampered with MY00 with 56k on... worth every penny to me (and cheaper on the insurance!)

The problem with you lot looking for an immaculate UK Classic of MY99 or MY00 (the only 2 to go far) is that you have looked at the cheap tat - the cars at £3k and have found them to be modified bangers.

Then, you start thinking that an immaculate one should only be a few £100 more - WRONG!!!

VERY WRONG - the best hold their money AND find buyers who have come to the conclusion that you need to pay for the best ones .......

Modified cars are crap cars - the two go together like a hand and glove.

Clapped out cars abound in huge numbers.

The genuine, Classic UK Impreza, MY99 or MY00, with sensible mileage and few mature owners are getting VERY rare - and anyone who have one are keeping it OR selling it to very grateful buyers for £8k+

I've said it before and I will repeat it - NEVER, EVER buy a cheap Impreza Turbo!

Oh, yes, sorry - mines NOT for sale and if it was I would require at least £8k (and I would be fighting the buyers off!)

Pete

supply and demand....

lots of sh*t/early/modded/abused classics deflates the price. If you have a good one then you can ask over the odds.

mtpw is that becasue the classic is still sort after, the corrolation between a top classic and a good bug eye will close and classic prices will remain unconnected, in the main, to those of the bug eye. you never know, might be the case the soon a top class classic fetches more than an average bug eye. if that makes sense

like i say just mtpw.

I sold a my00 ppp with 40k 2 owners last year for 7k btw

I've had my immaculate MY99 UK Turbo for about 2 months and i paid £7k for mine. Its totally standard, one owner from new and had just over 60k on the clock.....worth every penny.

Dont buy any cheap **** These are perfomance cars and need to be looked after. If its £3-4k its either a dog or the seller doesnt know what its really worth!

Well, you can keep your classics. I'm about to close the deal on buying an immaculate 02 Wagon with 17,000 miles, Prodrive lights, WRSport backbox and waist spoiler for 8,000 (I hope). Now that's a proper motor for realistic money!

What about special editions like the RB5, do you think they keep there value better than a standard Turbo.

Can I ask why you've just sold a blob eye subaru and bought a bug eye subaru - doesn't make much sense to me. Going to bug-eye is probably worse than buying a classic. Bug-eye values will just keep falling whereas good classics will actually start to appreciate.

I'd just like to point out that performance cars of the same year and even earlier performance cars hold their value better than Subarus.

Eventually, good money will change hands for good Imprezas and the cheap tat thats still around will be bought up for spares

Slower than a Classic, uglier than a Classic will lose money faster than a Classic ...... but you enjoy it

Every time you see a Classic your heart will stop, and you will know that you are in the wrong vehicle!!

Can't understand why someone would buy a bug-eye over a classic? It's a far better car and isn't viewed as an 'old' car like the classic. The R&D money Subaru spent went somewhere. I looked at both classics and a bug-eye. I might have considered a mint classic if I wasn't doing many miles, but when it came down to it, the bug-eye was a far better choice for many reasons. They respond better to tuning also and the only people who have a real problem with the looks tend to be classic owners strangely. Getting a bit old hat this knocking the bug-eye over and over, some of you need to move on a bit I think.

Not knocking the Bug-Eye .... it's simply an inferior car in almost all departments from speed and power to looks!
