Subaru really have lost it. People forgave them the bugeye because the classic was so good (at the time). Now they've had their chances to bring out something decent looking with a good interior, but have failed. MY06 looks so hideous its painfull.
RIP Subaru

Sadly, Subaru Impreza's have had their day ...... it's a shame, but the car died with the Classic.
The classic WAS the Impreza, it WAS the ICON, it WAS the one every young man aspired to own .......
Subaru is stuck between a raw rebel (the Classic) and a grown up car like a BMW/Audi/Merc. and it simply cannot offer the interior to rival the Top Marques ............. the Rebel Classic is now in the hands of the Chavs and it's being destroyed before our very eyes.
How many posts are saying, "Modify" - "Modify!!!!" ... turn your Classic into a ChavMobile!!??
We are witnessing the death of the Impreza at the hands of the modifying chavs with their CockLinks, De-Cats and Re-Mapps Sad very sad
Pete

You are tuned in to the vibe of today. All I see in Chesham is P1's destroyed by people wanting Lexus lights and driving at 70 in a 30. I'd prefer to be associated with Sadam than the current Scooby scene

Subaru's have grown up, this is the truth of the matter, the people now wanting the classics back just want to relive their childhood
The new cars are far better than the old cars ever were
Oh and Pete, we could always bring that car Jackie Chan drove in the gumball rally now THAT was a scoob
Tony

Well, as long as you can get Euro spec cars for £15000 BRAND NEW (not Jap spec....these are EU - near enough identical to UK spec as both conform to EU type approval standards - unlike Jap imports). So the onus is why pay £5.5K more for virtually the same car? When residuals caused by the imports make it worth no more once it's outside the warranty.
At least they've now raised the bar with 5yr warranty (worth about £1K a year after the first year) and 5yr servicing (I wonder what sludge they use as oil ). And 5yr recovery (and does that cover the fabled flat battery issue ) So now it's starting to make "some" financial sense...depending on the "terms and conditions" of their "free" promotional offers. There is always something in the small print to **** you sideways...you can trust I.M with that one

Don't know what servicing would cost though.

IMHO there is still nothing out there to touch them (and EVOs). People complain about the interior but I find it perfectly functional. Look at a Lotus for example in comparison. It's 4WD, your other choices are some VAG softies or a Jag X-Type. Nothing comes close to it for performance for the price. Take the EVO test track, VXR and Focus ST are something like 6 seconds slower while the standard MY06STI is hovering around Porsches, Ferraris and Lamborghinis. And then there is the reliability which always seems the be up the top in surveys, as well as customer satisfaction.
It's not beautiful to look at, but there are very few cars that are. I really like it. And the thing that attracts me to the MY06 is that it is quieter, and won't be heard for miles.
Also part of the problem is International Motors and Subaru dealers who have to be some of the most pathetic people in the motor industry. Unwilling to be pro-active and generally couldn't care less about their customers. Subaru dealers in Australia and NZ are so much better. (Don't believe me then look at www.subaru.com.au and www.subaru.co.nz to see how much better their websites are than the amateur effort over here)There is no excuse for the prices they charge, they should be charging a lot closer to import prices.

I saw my first one on the road two days running on my way to w**k this week. This morning, it had turned into a blobeye. The woman must have had the '06 as a courtesy car.

This is the Special Edition Impreza 2.5 WRX "Type UK".
Available in limited quantities for vehicles ordered and registered between 1st April and 30th June 2006.
Looks identical appart from the all important performance modification of Type UK external badging!!! Does indeed look like an atempt at a sales boost with the promise of free servicing and cheap peripherals rather than any real worthwhile car upgrades like the suspension brakes etc.

Im sorry but the new subarus just can't cut it in the looks department which is why I think sales have fallen.
The classic was the best ever because the uglyness of it made it beautifull but sadly now in the days of all the chavs bolting on halfords bits and dodgy second hand bits from ebay people have lost their respect for a truely great car which is why it will never be the same.
It really is a crying shame.
All I can say is I know my classic will be staying exactly as subaru intended it to be.

Is it the Lexus Light Brigade that is destroying Scoobs?!
My first Scoob experience was my mates (vanilla) P1, small A road, going "quite" fast.
Thats all I wanted from a car.
What other car, £ 4 £, gives that kind of drive? (Dark side excluded)
Mates E46 M3 has bling than aforementioned P1's in Chesham, the "modding" scene is trendy now, what with US rappers and all that spinning 20" sh*t
The f****** things still come with gold wheels for ***** sake!!!!!!!!!!
