Ferries
Hi people of much wisdom
Ive not taken my car abroad on a ferry before, how safe is it from door dinks etc (do you drive it to the space yourself etc)
Im going to southern ireland, is this a wise place to take a new STI?

Yep you drive it in yourself but you tend to be squeezed in like sardines.
When I had my Espace least year we went to France and they had me park about 4" from the right hand wall. I had to get out the passenger side and even on that side it was TIGHT!
Best bet if your worried is stay with the car until everyone around you has left the parking area.

I haven't actually had a car dinged but I have seen it happen on a ferry right in front of the owner. It was a big black BMW 5 series estate and this prat just opened his door straight into it. The Beemer guy went f@ckin crazy......

If you've a tracker fitted you might have to inform your tracker provider, or they might think it's been moved without the key !!
I'm going to look into this later on in the year because I'm going to france on a Ferry, then motorrail to Nice.

Yes, they do squeeze you in but it's not too bad and everyone is fairly cautious and polite not to bump doors.
As for tracker, huff! I'm extremely doubtful the bloody thing works to be honest. I called Tracker last year when I went to France and they didn't seem to bothered - it was all very unprofessional. I've been on loads of ferries in and around the UK since and not a dicky bird.
This year I'm not ringing them. I reckon I won't get a phone call. Me of little faith I suppose but I really do think these things are money for old rope.

The standard Subaru Tracker is UK coverage only. Trackstar will not inform you as you depart on the ferry as you are leaving your service zone. You need to upgrade to european cover for that.
However, in most cases it will not go off as it will not be getting a GPS fix in the bowel of the ship. Once you disembark you generally do so by using your key and therefore de-activate it.

Haven't had the scoob on a ferry yet but other cars we have had have been on, no probs, you are dead close to other cars but aslong as you or the person next to you getting out the car isn't built like an elephant then your car should be ok, a mate of ours came off the ferry same time as us, he had a bmw with a kit on, came down the ramp off the ferry and ripped all his kit off the front, poor lad had only had it put on, we didn't want to laugh coz I would have been mortified if it happened to me but once it was all sorted we were all laughing about it, your car isn't low is it lol

I have taken mine on loads of Ferries and never had a door dink, you stand exactly the same chance as you do in a supermarket so don't worry about it until it happens.
