New 2.5 Or ?????
Has anyone compared back to back the new 2.5 WRX with an Evo 8 260.My 01 WRX is on ebay finishing this Saturday.
I hope to buy a new car next week.
My WRX has been excellent & only cost tyres & brake pads, would an Evo be as good.
Just sensible thoughts please.

Just my opinion - the new 2.5 WRX feels heavier, slower and has very light steering compared to the 2.0. I went to a dealer launch with a friend who was about to change his 2.0 WRX for the 2.5 - after the test drive, over a good 30 minute x-country route he said forget it and bought one of the last few 05 cars for a good discount. I thought the new car lacked the scooby experience, much of the noise is gone as are many of the mechanical whines, pops and bangs you get with the 2.0 cars somehow its all more refined and less exciting which is disappointing. Similar to the way the new ages felt initially after the classic.
The Evo260 is a different beast all together, much shorter geared and therefore more punchy. Much more like a STi than a WRX in terms of hard ride, fuel economy and noise levels. My local dealer only had a 260 to test, I was actually after a drive in a IX 340 which took them 3 weeks to arrange!! The 260 is a capable machine and much more a sports machine than the 2.5 WRX, horses for courses though because my rough calculations made the Evo, in any form a much more expensive car to own - especially when a 2.5 STi import from Litchfields costs less than a new Evo VIII 260 at list price! Compare a new WRX and a new 260 on cost terms and the WRX has to win hands down.
So what am I trying to say??
If you want the rally missile and ££ are the main issue buy the 2.5 WRX (or a late 05 car if latest shape is less important)!
If you want focus in your drivers car and ££ are not an issue buy the Evo 260, though a quick look at Pistonheads classifieds and the import market might be useful too...
If you want to make the most of your cash, buy the 06 2.5 STi in the for sale section for main dealer WRX money!
