on idle will rev to about 4 when under load i.e. full throttle wont rev past 2 1/2 just goes flat like no fuel apply throttle gently and you can build up to 3 some times cuts out when sat at idle revs just drop off

The MAF gets blamed for everything from flat tyres to chipped paint .....
Does the fuel pump energise and then stop when pressure reached or does it just keep whirring?

It may well be electrical if it's dieing under load.
I would check the plugs and possibly coil pack/packs dependent on year.
Hope this helps bud.

It's in fail safe limp home mode. Check the codes from the website quoted. You won't be able to do anything until the fault has been cleared and the faulty sensor has been replaced. Mine did a similar thing but it happened during an overtake. It was a faulty MAF sensor that caused the car to overboost and put the car straight into fail safe. I did the ECU diagnostic and it gave me the MAF sensor and boost solenoid, after a reset it just came up with the MAF sensor. I took it to the nearest dealer, Oakens near Wolverhampton, and they plugged in the Select monitor and did a full diagnostic and reset, FOC. Which was nice, but I did have to buy another MAF sensor. My car is the same model as yours.

slinger; youre new here so I will try to do you a good turn and give you a little advice. Which is: desregard any even remotely 'technical' post by pslewis. Pete is a trolling gob****e know-nowt of the highest order. If this fool told me that **** stinks Id need to sniff it to check.
