Optimax has been tested and found to allow more ignition advance to be run when tuning a car than Tesco 99, however Tesco's offering is still perfectly adequate for your car.

I currently use optimax everytime but there are advantages for me by using the tesco stuff. It is a tad cheaper in my area but the main advantage is that there is a tesco within a mile of me and its also on my way to and from work and then theres the clubcard points!!!!!!!

Most people on here will have an opinion of what fuel is best.
The best way to check which suits your car best is by TRYING it, not by reading it in a magazine or on a forum.
FWIW i do notice a difference (better) when i run my import WRX on Tesco 99.

im going to start using it. justifiying the journey and the 3p a litre more isnt worth it when there is a tesco garage/little shop thing 0.4 miles from my drive. + the whole clubcard thing. still going to try and give her a full tank of opti every month or so if i pass one.

It has been reported on here that some tuners have achieved more advance on the Tesco 99, while it has also been reported that Optimax allows more advance in the map.

iv tried both uk my99 (standard exept cat back magnex and kn panel filter and the resonator under the wing removed ) and mine feels smoother if a little lethargic on optimax and a little more sprightly through the gears with tesco but this is just by my **** dyno so nothing to back it up .i get 240 ish to a tank of tesco,s and im half way through a tank of optimax but its looking similar i personaly think the ecu has retarded the ignition a tad for the optimax thats how it feels and ill be resetting after my next fill up at tesco,s

FWIW personally I have tried running my fuel low, filling up a particular brand of SUL, resetting the ecu, and test driving.
My findings, not a lot of difference between optimax (98 ron), and esso supreme (97 ron). I would however say that optimax has a slight edge. But on tesco (99 ron) I did notice a significantly faster pickup in gears, so I would guess better torque with tesco 99.
Unfortunately my nearest tesco selling the 99 ron is too far out the way for me to use. So I use the supreme mostly, and optimax now and then, but only when convenient.
My car is a standard MY93 import saloon, accept for induction and centre back exhaust.

My car has run on Optimax for years very happily, with very little knocklink activity. I tried 5-6 tanks of 99ron and found Knocklink becoming very active.
Back to Optimax and back to normal
Very Strange

Mine's being mapped tomorrow on Tesco 99 only. Current map is on Optimax + a bottle of Millers o/b. I've been using Tesco's 99, whenever possible, since it first appeared and find very little difference with Optimax + Millers. Knocklink activity is similar.
We'll see tomorrow what the difference is

My car was mapped for Optimax but it runs significantly better on Tesco 99. Much more low down pull and better pickup through the gears. I'm getting another remap next tuesday and it'll be with Tesco 99 even if I have to carry a few cans up to scotland with me!

Winchester was one of the first Tesco stores to get the 99Ron and I used it for about 4 month nonstop. However, to the end of this period my car, a my uk turbo, started to feel 'not right' but I put it down to needing a major service. This feeling continued after the service and then I heard about other people who'd reported similar things. Filled up with Optimax and after about half the tank I could feel that the car was running more smoother and was generally happier. I think the Tesco 99 gave a more raw power.
As said, though in the end it's what suits your car.
