My '95 RA engine let go recently (I was driving too fast). I did however perhaps stupidly believe that I had a rev limiter. I must say I was revving at 9K according to my dial. Anyone else had this sort of problem ?? I thought the ECU did ths.

My 94 WRX kicks in just below 8000. I have only hit it twice though. Both in 1st gear, so barely sustanied.

Cheers,

Nick

You should never even hit thr red line, let alone the rev limiter.

If they do not expect you to hit the red line they would not have put it there.

Orbv,

I tend to agree. I can quite often be seen heading towards the red line in first and second. Try to keep off the rev limiter tho. The car accelerates so quick tho that I managed it twice while over taking slower cars a few weeks back. Acceleration is addictive and during full bore accel I tend to watch the road and not the tacho. With the SS DP the TD05 quite happily flies to the rev limiter in 1st and 2nd. Normally try to change up at 6800rpm straight back to peak boost on change up. Luuurvley.
The car's there to be enjoyed, not just to sit still and be cleaned.

P.

The red line also IMO is there to show that the engine can goto a certain RPM only for a very short time. If you have stronger uprated internals, all balanced, then 9k would probably be a usable maximum. But hey, I don't know. If I don't know I just ask S Lawson. He's probably fed up with 50 questions from me all the time.

I think what Im trying to say is that there is NO rev limiter. NOTHING cut in at 9k, let alone before it. I know I was driving too fast but I thought the limiter might cut in and stop me shafting the engine.
Cheers though, its hard with a gear box like mine..
Quite right the car is there to be driven..BEAUTIFUL
